Subject:Clarity when rendering files

I use Acid solely for recording and editing many projects with virutally no problems. The question I have is this: When I 'render' files to burn onto disk, it seems to lose clarity once I put it onto a CD. This happens whether I render as .wav or .mp3, .wav actually seems to be less clear than .mp3. What is the best way to render to CD for the highest possibly clarity? Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated. If you offer suggestions, I will send you a free copy of my next release. btw, I use CD Creator if that makes a difference. Thanks! |

Mmm...you should use something lossless. WAV is lossless, MP3 is not. WAV seems less clear vs. MP3? Not in my experience. Use 16-bit/44.1 kHz for CD. (It's the standard for that format.) You can use 24-bit and a higher sample rate (like 96 kHz) before that, but you should convert the bit-depth and resample before committing to CD. (I'm beginning to sound like a broken record, but a 24-bit recording dithered down to 16-bit sounds better than if the recording was done 16-bit straight through.) It might be in your interest to pick up something like Sound Forge for its mastering features. It will help you massage your dull recordings into better ones. I personally wouldn't be caught without it. HTH, Iacobus |
