Subject:Where do you get your drum loops from??

I am very new to Acid, but having bought acid pro 4.0 recently, i am keen to make some music. I am very much into dance music and that is the sort of music i would like to start making but i am stuck at the first hurdle. I can't get a kick drum beat that i like.

How do you guys get them?...do you get them from sample loop cd's or do you create them in some way? Is there a software package or plug-in that can help me make the drum loops i am after?

Any advice would be much appreciated
Please help!!

hmm...i get most of my drum loops from samples that i've made myself. i have a lot of soul and funk/fusion on vinyl and usually there are lots of solo drumbeats to be found in these songs.

you can find drumloops online, tho most are of pretty lousy quality. still, if you don't have any loops whatsoever it might be worth checking out.

on this page a lot of cool drumloops can be downloaded. the only downside is, as i mentioned, that the quality is mostly pretty bad. i don't know if you'll find anything worth using in a Dance track, as most loops seem to be hiphop/funk orientated, but ya never know. :)

good luck.

Do a search in this forum and I believe you'll find a wealth if sites. If you've got some time, do an internet search. SF's on CDs are a wealth of loops. Try http://www.sonicfoundry.com/loop_libraries/default.asp?cid=-1

Hammerhead... http://www.threechords.com/hammerhead/
ErsDrums... http://www.bostreammail.net/ers/ersdrums.html
Drumatic...http://www.e-phonic.com/
Computer Music Magazine/ The CM Studio...(you have to buy the magazine to get it for free... http://www.computermusic.co.uk/about/aboutvst.asp

These are all good sources to get you started with making your own beats. The SR-202 is wicked and wild, Hammerhead has loads of downloadable kits and such. Other very good sources for creating your own beats...

As the above post

If you want to create your own loops, not just drum loops but any sort of loop you like then download the FruityLoops demo. You dont even have to buy the software as the demo will allow you to create loops and export them as acidized waw files.

Fruity loops may appeare a bit daunting when you first open it but read the online help and persevere, believe me it is worth it.

You can even run it as a VSTi inside Acid although Ive not had much success using it like that.

In addition to what's been said, still another option is to use percussion One-shots to create your own custom rhythms in ACID, essentially using it like using a drum sequencer.

You can either create your own as other users have mentioned, or extract One-shots from various collections such as SoFo's loop libraries. Not every library has them but some have sizable One-shot collections.

Even if you don't have One-shots but instead have percussion Loops, you can still construct your own rhythm by taking a parts from various Loops or just rearranging Loops with ACID 4.0's Chopper tool.

The only thing, of course, is if you have a specific rhythm in your head but don't exactly know music theory all that well, you might have trouble manifesting it in ACID.

Iacobus
