Subject:EDITING QUESTION

If I record 3 minutes of me on guitar on GUITAR.1, then I use 2 seconds of it in a mix, can I save that 2 seconds and delete GUITAR.1?

I am using snippets of longer recordings, but if I throw out my original track, the whole thing disappears.
It is frustrating, since I'm saving long WAV files when I only use a small bit of them.

Thanks to everyone for help with my questions!

let's say you've made several selections, all on one channel. now do the following :

1. you need to get each guitar piece on its own channel. so if you have 3 "snippets", duplicate the track twice, and set it so that you have each part on a seperate channel.

2. mute every channel in your song, except for the first channel with one of the guitar parts. make sure the volume of the track is set to the maximum value, but just below where the sound is going to clip.

3. set the loop region to exactly encompass the piece of guitar.

4. press Ctrl+M. it will ask you for a location to save the new file.

when you press OK a new file will be created which will only contain the channel you've left unmuted and which is between the loop markers. also a new track will be created which contains the new loop, based on the wavefile you've just saved in step 4.

note, the new channel is probably set in Loop mode, which might stretch the new guitar part beyond recognition. if you wanna be sure the tempo is right, set this track to One Shot instead.

now, repeat the process for snippet 2 and 3, making sure you mute the other channels as needed.

when this is done you will have 3 new wave files containing the guitar loops you've selected, and therfore you can safely delete the large wave file.

hth.
