What is the best way of upgrading my PC for faster response etc? I have a P2 350Mhz with 128mb and 8.4 gig drive – despite it being ancient! Its reliable for things like Acid Pro 2.0 / Soundforge 4.5 etc.. Do I need to upgrade my RAM for a faster machine? Or do I need to upgrade the Hard drives? I personally think it maybe the RAM…? If so do I have to buy the SAME ram as is already installed? (say to take it up to 512 or 1024mb?) or can I just buy any Ram and add it to the board? How do I check what sort of Ram I have? Can you “display” this anywhere? Device Manager? Thanks.. |

Usually, a system like that contains PC100 SDRAM. To be sure, check your motherboard manual (if you system came with one). The only way to tell otherwise would be to go into your system's BIOS or open your system up. (Repeatedly press Delete or F10 while your system boots. It's all dependent on the system.) Yes, you have to buy the same kind of RAM. It's probably a little harder to find that kind in-store nowadays, so you'll probably have to order it online through places like Memoryman. Lots of RAM will always help out. 128 MB is pretty good depending on the OS. Windows XP, for example, would benefit more from having at least 256 MB. HTH, Iacobus |

Neither, in this day and age you can get a faster computer for next to nothing, I see systems with 500 Mhz for $150, which is basically about what you'd pay to up-grade your memory and hard drive...Level Vibes |
