Hello All, Can Anybody recommend any books about House Music/Dance Music Engineering? Tips and Tricks? If not, can you recommend websites that deal with that specifically? Thank in advance for any ideas. MX |

Try poking around the tutorials on http://www.computermusic.co.uk/main.asp Also, invest in some of the acid cds that you think fit your style (NYC Dance?) and then start coping mixes you like. The best way to learn is to copy. |

the only true solution i found was to search google for "house music". then search for the audio referenced in the results. then i study the construction of the music and try to incorporate my interpretation of it into my project. |

yeah, the computer music or future music websites are the only real consistant resources for dance music production info. all the stateside audio magazines and their sister websites are generally spread way too thin to keep up. although remix mag is pretty good. house is a very broad genre, but i think as far as looking at dance music from an engineering and not a production standpoint, it's pretty much all mixed with the same set of rules. things are kept mostly dry, but with careful attention paid to equalization, panning, and of course compression on the drums. if you know the basic principles of mixing there should really be no mystery. it's not like 5.1 dvd mix. |

I like MattX's advice on copying your favorite stuff- Take this idea one step further & extract your favorite track into acid, beat map it & then try to use your own loops alongside it until you are happy with the results, then delete your beatmapped track & there it is! Your very own house track- hopefully at this point you can keep adding stuff with the beat mapped track gone to put your own stamp on it- - remix magazine (14.00 subscription...cheap), & tape-op magazine (not exactly a dance oriented but a great resource for a free subscription) are what i refer to the most- |
