Introduction Media Not Working?

beatnik wrote on 3/27/2003, 4:08 PM
Ever since I installed the beta patch to DVD-A the Introduction Media does not
work?

I choose my intro media for both audio and video and click "apply", when I go into
preview it's not there. When I go back into "properties/project properties" the
audio and video are empty? Am I missing something? It worked before?

Either press stop and then play (which starts everything over) or, instead of clicking on Preview, click on Preview All.

Nope, tried that and doesn't work. When I input the file and hit apply it "seems"
to accept the intro media. When I go back in the two fields, "video" and "audio"
are blank again?

I'm having a similar problem when trying to start new projects in DVDA. My work around has been to save my existing project (that has intro material) under a different file name and THEN replace the introduction media and erase/alter the menu pages as appropriate.

Yep that is the fix, what I did was created and burned a DVD without the intro media.
I then viewed the DVD in my player and decided to change a few things. Went back into
vegas, did some editing, saved and rendered it. Then I went back into DVD-A and
re-opened the .dar project file and re-inserted the "new" video. The reason I re-opened the same .dar project is because DVD-A does not SAVE templates and I didn't
want to re-do all of the graphics, buttons etc. So it would seem that you cannot add
an intro media on a previously saved .dar project. I had to create a new DVD-A
project all over again.

Beatnik,

I'm not repro'ing this issue. Are you using DVDA 1.0a (build 184)? What OS? What media types are you using for the intro media? (both the video and audio)

And I want to verify that my steps are correct:
1) Create a new project with no intro media
2) Save the project
3) Close that project
4) Open saved project
5) Add intro media in Properties dialog
6) "Preview All" (Ctrl+F9) - no intro media plays - start at opening menu
7) the Audio and Video fields for the intro media are empty again

Is this correct? If not, please point out what I'm doing wrong.
Thanks.

This has been my problem with introduction material: If I start a new project and try to insert intro material all appears okay. The program accepts the items and I receive no errors. If I then go back into the file, properties menu the introduction material isn't there anymore and if I then go to file, optimize DVD I get an exception error that shuts down the program.

My workaround for this has just been to save existing projects under a new file name and then replace the introduction material and alter and adjust the menu pages as appropriate to reflect my new project. This appears to work. Seems strange that I can't start a "new project" but the program works fine if I rename the existing project and then alter it to fit my new project. My OS is XP Home and I have DVDA 1.0a build 184.

DVD-A = 1.0a Build 184
O/S = Windows XP Pro
Media = .avi

Steps = (a). Create new projects without intro media and save
(b). Re-open project and delete media and re-insert new media, keeping
all background graphics and buttons as is.
(c). Try and create or insert intro media does not work.

My work-around was to create a new project from scratch and inserting intro media.

I think what the problem is that DVD-A will not accept new "global" settings in
an existing open project.....I think?

I would LOVE to be able to save frequently used projects as templates! This way I
can just open a saved DVD-A template and just insert new media! What I mean about
template is buttons, background graphics, background music etc.

Sorry guys, I'm following your steps, and I'm just not reproducing this bug.

I'm going to lay out EVERY single step I do - Beatnik - I want you to point out exactly where I'm going wrong:

1) Open App - New Blank "Menu-Based" Project appears
2) Create a simple project with 2 or 3 buttons linking to video objects
3) Save project as "test.dar"
4) Hit the "New Project" button to clear out the "Test.dar" project
5) Re-open the "Test.dar" project
6) Double-click on the first button to open the Media Timeline view, and replace the video with another by dragging a different file from the Media Explorer to the workspace
7) Do that for each video object
8) Make sure I'm back on the main menu
9) File - Properties
10) Put some .avi as both the video and audio intro media
11) "OK" on that dialog to close it
12) "Preview All" (CTRL+f9)

For you - there is no intro media. For me - works just fine. I go back into the File - Properties dialog and the intro media that I set is still specificied in the dialog.

Sorry for going thru it like this, but I really want to figure out what is going on.

Did you ever use the "Start all new projects with these settings" checkbox in the Properties dialog? (shouldn't matter)

1). Create flick called test.veg
2). Render as test.mpg
3). Create new project in DVD-A with test.mpg, save as test.dar
4). Go back to Vegas and re-edit test.veg
5). Render as test.mpg
6). Go back into DVD-A and open test.dar, delete media on front page and insert
test.mpg
7). Now try and insert "intro media", won't accept it!

Hope this helps!

I also cannot get the intro to play; the differnce here is that it DOES show the audio and video file in the properties. Still, nothing previews or burns to disc; the disc starts off with the opening menu.

Using a Dell Ispiron 8200 notebook, external 1394 drive, 768 MB RAM, Win XP Pro, 2 GHz CPU.

dvdude, try this, insert your audio and video in the intro media boxes, click accept,
exit out of properties, then go back into properties and let me know if the media
you placed in there is still there!
