Have any of you successfully integrated one of the new digital recorders with your computer rig? I have been reading up on the Boss 1180CD, and it seems like it would be fun to work with. Since it can read and save .wav files, I would guess you could shuffle things back and forth between the DAW and the recorder, if you needed to. Or maybe you could start projects on the 1180CD and finish them on the computer. Or, do you think having something like the 1180CD would be redundant?

Thanks for your comments.

It's just opinion, but to me it would be redundant. But you want to consider what will work best for you. I can see how a hardware unit would be more confortable for some people. A lot of people but them, so there is something there.

I've got an 1180CD and a computer rig. IMHO as soon as you can get two inputs into your computer rig, you won't be using the 1180CD at all. The computer based interface is just way too easy for the 1180CD, and other small (1-4 track) hard disk recorders to compete.

Also, the 1180CD takes a bit too long to burn tracks to wav files. Spend the $$ on a multi input pro sound card and record the tracks straight into Acid (or Sonar or Sonar or ProTools, etc.)

Good luck.

Thanks, guys. After hearing your comments, I believe my interest in the digital recorder was probably more "toy lust" than practical need. You are right that I should just continue to improve my DAW rig.
