Subject:Equalizing volume of two voices in an interview Posted by: jimmyg Date:3/27/2003 11:56:06 AM I'm recording interviews with business experts that I will be publishing on cassettes and CDs. I'm doing the interviews on the telephone and notice that the voice volume of the person I am interviewing is always substantially lower than mine when recording the .wav file into Sound Forge. Is there a function within Sound Forge that will make these two recording levels relatively equal other than me doing it manually afterward and individually editing every single segment when the person speaks in the interview? It reduces the volume of louder parts without affecting quieter parts. You should be able to get them fairly even in one pass this way. It can even automatically normalize the overall volume back up to a high level at the same time.

I opened Effects-->Dynamics-->Graphic in Sound Forge after reading your post but I don't know what to do after that. Can you give me the sequential steps I'd take to equalize the volume of the two voices with the process you are recommending? Thanks. Jim

If that isn't enough, there are two presets I would try in Wave Hammer -- the "Smooth Compression" and the "Voice" presets. A word of advice, a little compression is usually enough.
