VideoFactory does not allow for greenscreen/bluescreen because the Chroma Keyer is not included with this package. Several users have asked SF if they plan on adding this feature to VideoFactory but the only response from SF was that they apologize for the Help file under VF containing references to the Chroma keyer.

I would be willing to pay for extra features of VF or maybe even a newer version which includes this feature. I don't understand myself my Screenblast users have this feature and we do not. The products are basically the same.

Just get a piece of green or blue fabric from a local fabric store, it's not as great as the professional screens, but it will do the trick, just make sure to have it pulled nice and tight when you are shooting on it so there are no wrinkles in the fabric.

Thanks. I've also heard to light it evenly, and even use a back source on the subject. It sounds a little tricky, but since my "actors" are small birds, I should be able to pull it off.

Chromakey is the process of electronically replacing a particular color on a TV screen with other video. This is the process used in news and weather broadcast to put the anchor over maps and graphics.

Blue and green are commonly used because they are colors not normally found in skin tones.

The Processs:

1 - Film object against a Green or Blue background - Sheet of paper. For example, a guy reading the news sitting at a desk.

2 - Use a Chroma Key [Chroma = Colour; Key = Precise as in "coding" or "password" or "secret message" OR as in this, this is the "key" that will unlock the door - yeah?].

3 - Remove the "Keyed" background - this makes background [ that which was "Green" or "Blue" ] now transparent. This will remove the Green or Blue background from behind the "guy reading the news". Not only transparent to a second underlying video but also "stills" and other graphics.

4 - Apply the "Background" video OR graphic

The second video will now show up in the "backgound" THROUGH the areas that you made transparent. - This Chroma-keying can't be done in Video Factory. Can be done in Vegas Video 3 and now Vegas 4 - Maybe a good reason for upgrading from VF, but this pales into insignificance when all the other stuff available in VV3 or V4.

Hope this helps - my definition of the word "Key" are my own - but I think I'm not far off-message with this,

Grazie
