Still having trouble with the hp DVD200xi drive

I cannot write to an erased dvd+RW with my drive! I have the DVDA 1.0a patch installed and my firmware is version 1.51 (the latest). First I get the following message when I try to burn my project to a DVD+RW:

The disc contains data. If you continue the data will be overwritten"

And then I proceed with overwritting the data (even though it has been erased by my RecordNow software program and contains no data).

Then I get this error after about 5 seconds of attempting to write the data to my DVD+RW drive:

Unknown Error (80004005h)

And under the "details" of the error it states this:

'SFMMCX'-(17)

I would appreciate any help!!

Have you tried more than one +RW disc? What application did you erase the current one in? Did you ever use Pinnacle to burn to that particular disc?

What OS are you running? How much data are you attempting to burn to the disc?

Thanks,
Dave

I have been able to burn to a blank DVD+RW, but just not one that has been written to already. I use the RecordNow software that came with my Burner and I think I enabled DMA on the disc before I erased it. I have never burnt to the DVD+RW with Pinnacle's software. I am running windows XP SP1. Also, I was attempting to burn about a 4Gb file size on the DVD+RW.

I have HP 200i. When I installed 1.51 I couldn't erase and write to TDK DVD+RW disks any more; I was getting "SCSI target error in Nero. Other disks were ok. When I downgraded back to 1.36, everything was ok. Downgrade back to 1.36 firmware and see what happenes.

Sorry,

This is wrong:

I use the RecordNow software that came with my Burner and I think I enabled DMA on the disc before I erased it.

It should be DLA, not DMA.

Kabanero,

I had problems with the 1.36 firmware at first so I upgraded to 1.51 because it was mentioned to fix the problems (which it did not for me).

Thanks

Thanks for the info. I downloaded the free trial of the "RecordNow" software and I'm trying to reproduce your issue.

What version of that software are you using? And can you walk me through the steps that you do when you burn a disc with that software?

If you would like, feel free to email me directly with that info, and any further questions you have about this issue.

I might be wrong but I think that DLA should only be used when burning data discs and not when burning video. I have HP200i and I previously had problem with reusing +RW-discs (I had the first firmware) after a couple of reburns. I then upgraded to 1.51 (which was supposed to correct a problem with erased discs not being recognised as erased) and haven't had any problems since the upgrade. I'm now able to use "old" +RW discs that I couldn't use before (I erased these faulty discs in RecordNow, all of the discs but one worked after one erase, one disc had to be erased two times before it worked again).

I think the problem was in my DVD+RW. I can't format it again without getting errors telling me the media is bad.

I tried another DVD+RW that was previously written to and it works fine.

Thanks for the help everyone,

Steve
