I did the search for you using "vocals" as the keyword, Sound Forge Family, 100 per page, out of the 363 hits, most will address your question. There is probably more written on this topic than any other. I would give you the link but it's the default search page not the results. Also click the "FAQ" link above and refer to #6. MJ |

Bottom line is "no", unless you're willing to let it sound like crap. There are some apps that claim to be able to do this based on freqency ranges and comparing mono to stereo channels, but don't get your hopes up for a clean finished product. The reason is simple math. Multiple track mixdowns are ultimately all additive. You take the quantization value of a sample on each waveform, and add them all together (vocals, drums, guitar, whatever) to get the final value. It's very easy to say that 5+3+7+1 = 16, but there's no *one* correct answer for which four numbers add up to 16 when you're going the other way. |

I attempted to take the "voice out" of that song "Baby one more time". She turned me down, said she was too busy getting freaky with Fred Durst. :-) |

In some cases, with a stable centre image vocal and low amount of stero spread in the reverberation, things like VREMOVER can be surprisingly effective. But not usually. geoff |

DART Karaoke Studio has given me the best results. However, it depends on the original mix. If the voice is at the center in the mix, and if the music is full stereo, it could give some "good" backing track. But results are never predictable. |

There is a free plugin for Winamp 2 that does the same thing, and equally unpredictably for the reasons mentioned above ... |
