Subject:retaining id3 tags when editing

Hi all,
When I open an .mp3 file with id3 tags, I can't seem to edit the existing data.
Is SF 6 supposed to preserve the existing id3 info when saving the edited file?
Can you edit the existing tag data?
Thanks,
Paul

I haven't checked to see if SF6 preserves id3 info after an edit, but yes, you can certainly edit and create tag info.

Bear in mind that when you open an mp3 file for editing (or even playback) within SF, the program converts it to a WAV file. (Because SF is a wavefile editor!)

So, when you save it again, it'll re-make the mp3 - a somewhat slower process than the other way round...

When you get the Save As... dialog box, you'll scroll through the Save As Type... options, and select mp3. Next, (on SF6, different on earlier versions) you'll use the Template box to choose the bitrate of your mp3. Just to the right of that is a Custom button - click on it.

This opens the Custom Settings dialog box, where you can choose a number of variables - right at the bottom is a tab called ID3 settings.

You have now found your personal Holy Grail... enter your info and you're done.

As I say, I haven't checked whether SF re-creates this info, either by default or as an option - I'll leave you to do that bit!

Cheers,

Phil
