Subject:markers to regions???

I have a sony grx580 laptop that came with Screenblast Sound Forge Deluxe preinstalled. I'm trying to break up a huge wav file that I ripped from a DVD. I figured out how to drop the markers but I can not change them to regions. In the special/regions list menu there is no option for markers to regions. How do I do this?

I believe that function is only available in the full version of SoundForge. The ScreenBlast deluxe version is equivalent to SoundForge Studio, the stripped down version.

You can still accomplish this manually though. Double-click between the first pair of markers to select that section, Ctrl-C to copy, Ctrl-E to paste to new file, Save the new file. Repeat for each pair of markers. Yeah, it's rather repetitive and time consuming, but it does get the job done.

This one feature alone of Markers to Regions and Extract Regions has probably saved me enough time over the last year to pay back the cost of the full version of SoundForge several times. It's hard to remember life without it ;)

I do a lot of this: recording very large WAV files, then going back, cutting them up into tracks, repairing and re-recording.

The cutting up into tracks has been tedious. Are you saying that I can simply double-click "between markers" and the section will self-select? I can't wait to get home and try it!

On the other hand, clicking and dragging with the mouse isn't hard if you have been cutting and can therefore simply drag back to the beginning (i.e. no need to watch for another marker).

keether: indeed i am saying that :)

What's nice about the markers is that you can take your time positioning and repositioning them as you wish. Then once you've got them positioned you can double-click to select without risk of accidentally moving the endpoints of the section.

i use the following method when looking for loops :

- i rip the entire wave file and open it in SF.
- when i find a piece i like i select it, and fine tune the selection by zooming in on the start and end and adjusting as needed (most of the time at a 1:1 ratio).
- i also have the Regions window docked in the lower part of the screen. when i have the selection i want i drag it into the Regions window and give it a name.
- i do this untill i've reached the end of the wave file.
- then i simply use Tools > Extract Regions to save all regions in one go.

When I do this, each time I save a region, go back and get it, each region is the entire wav file.

good dog, how are you saving the regions? You should be going to Tools and selecting Export Regions. If you're using File / Save As, then you will be saving the whole file regardless of what region you have selected.

Dynomic, are you sure the CD has been closed or finalized, if not, the CD appears to be blank, it's not,you just need to close it...Greg

I think I see the problem. I am using sound forge xp 4.5. I don't have that form my tools list. I do have "special" /regions list/ add/clear/copy to clipboard. Will that work? I have been recording the source and clicking stop-start wile recording to break my files. Seems like if I can do it the way your talking about would be beter. Can I do it in sf xp 4.5.
