Subject: Sonar 2.1 + Sound Forge 6 = OK, then add CD Architect

Hi,
Here is my situation. I had Sonar 2.1 and Sound Forge 6.0d installed and had no problems. I have many Sonar projects using Sound Forge audio plugins. Everything is fine.

I then install CD Architect 5.0 and everything seems fine, all 3 programs run ok. When I open a Sonar project with Sound Forge plugins, no audio files play at all. No settings I changed would fix it. I then deleted the tracks with the Sound Forge plugins and all is fine.

I did a repair install of Sound forge but it didn't help. So I deleted Sound Forge and CD Architect and reinstalled both, again same problem. So I deleted both again and reinstalled Sound Forge, and everything works. I install CD Architect and the problem in Sonar comes back.

So basically I bought CD Architect and it works fine, but then I can't use Sound Forge plugins in Sonar.

Any one Else have this problem or have any advice?

Chuck

The plug-in .dlls included with Forge 6.0 were built with the DirectX 8.0 SDK. The ones in CDA were built with the DirectX 8.1 SDK, and while the Sonic Foundry part of the plug-in code has not changed, Cakewalk apparently has some trouble dealing with the Microsoft changes in 8.1. They are aware of the issue.

In the meantime, install Forge, find and copy the plug-in .dlls off to some safe location (sfppack1.dll, sfppack2.dll, sfppack3.dll, sfhammer.dll, sfmirror.dll), install CDA, then replace the .dlls it installs with the ones you copied off. You may have to drag-and-drop the .dll files onto Sound Forge to re-register them.

had what sounds like a related problem. Installing CDA5 broke the plugin preview (crashes SF after a while) in Sound Forge. It is also related to my Echo MIA sound card and various settings on it. I was able to find sound card driver settings that make my system work, but there is clearly something about CDA 5 that broke the plug ins.

Uninstalling CDA5 by a wipe and reload of my system using Ghost fixed it. Sound card settings had no effect on my system if CDA5 was not installed. very reproducible. I don't know if a straight uninstall of CDA5 would have fixed my problem.

Unfortunately, I read this post too late (after I installed CD Architect 5). I'm running Sonar 2.2 and Sound Forge 6.0e, and I'm having the same problem with Sound Forge plug-ins in Sonar. After installing CD Architect 5, I receive an error message ("Unable to patch effect...") when assigning a Sound Forge plug-in to an audio track.

What's interesting...
When I assign a Sound Forge plug-in to a track that does *not* include audio, the plug-in is found and I can set the parameters. However, when I drag/record audio to the track where the plug-in is assigned, I start receiving the error messages once again.

What I've done so far...
Once I un-installed CD Architect and Sound Forge, I re-installed Sound Forge *only.* I dragged-and-dropped the .dll files onto Sound Forge to re-register them (just incase), but I'm still having the same problem with the Sound Forge plug-ins in Sonar.

Any thoughts? Any help would be appreciated!

- Tom

To add to what 'Sonic' had to say, this is an issue with Sonar and should be fixed with upcoming updates/new releases from Cakewalk.

xx156 or anybody who wants to try reverting to older builds of SF plug-ins and is having trouble should see this post:

bastinado: I haven't heard of the plug-in preview crash before. Is this only when using the plug-ins that came with CD Arch (in your case) or any (ie. Third Party) plug-ins.

I have corresponded with tech support on this one, I forget who. I have also posted several times in various places with details. Short description is that Sound Forge plugins (Sonic Foundry ones) started crashing in real time preview after I installed CDA5. There are many other details. If you search on "bastinado" in the forums you will find all of the details.
