Subject:Anyone gotten bigger VSTi's to be stable in Acid?

Hey there, Just wondered if there was anyone out there who's got some of the bigger soft synths to be stable. Namely The Grand and Atmosphere. I can't seem to keep these 2 VSTi's loaded in Acid long enough to lay down any tracks. It's horrible. They're rock solid in SX...but Acid is so much easier to use and do remix work with. It happens when I load a new sound, though not consistently. Sometimes all it takes is for me to be playing some keys and then when I'm getting into a groove...blam. Acid performs an "illegal operation". I've posted my system specs a million times (since I've had problems with Acid since the release of version 4) so here goes again: P4 1.9 Intel Motherboard 1 Gig Ram Windows XP SP1 Seagate Cheetah Ultra SCSI II hard drive for recording Seagate Barracuda Ultra ATA hard drive for OS Aardvark LX6 Pro sound card Edirol UM-2 USB Midi interface N-Vidia G-Force II video card All latest drivers, optimized for audio, not used for anything else. I don't have the Grand but when I'm scrolling thru patches and playing my Roland A-90 controller on any of the Spectrasonics stuff it kicks me out of Acid 4.0b. Ron Jones |

I am having similar problems. Add Steinberg D'Cota to the list of crashing soft synths. It locks up and hangs almost immediately. Works fine in SX, but woud be nice to use in Acid. Any advice to get these working would be great. |

The Grand & Virtual Guitarist working really good here. I didn't use the Acid default Vstplugin folder though, and the audio data is on a different drive. Been running RegCleaner and defragging constantly.... |

So have I, Salad. If you look at my system specs, you'll see that there is absolutely no reason that I should be having ANY problems...and actually, I don't with other software. Acid is the only problem child. I never had problems with stability until 4.0. I wonder if SF is planning on releasing any more builds or if they're pretty much done with Acid until the next version. If that's the case, I'm going to be very disappointed. -Midihead |

I would like to add Crystal as another VSTi that is unstable in Acid 4b but stable in other vst hosts. -CB |

I don't know if this has to do with it, but could it be the incredible amount of memory Acid takes up in the background? I've seen mine slowly rocket to over 100,000k. If Acid is using up this much memory, it's no wonder the juicier VST synths have problems. Just a thought. What are you going to do about the memory issue SOFO? It's quite an ugly problem. Next time YOU are using Acid with a bunch of tracks, check out the Windows Task Manager and see what Acid is sucking up...it may surprise you. |

Yes I've got 2.2. I find that after a period of time Crystal and other VSTi's lose contact with the MIDI input and essentially are dead. Sometimes I have to close Acid and reload. I do not have this problem running a VST-DXi wrapper running under Sonar. I have encountered this on two different PCs so I think that rules out something wrong with my setup. Delay Lama is another that goes wacky under Acid. Midi notes frequently get stuck, etc. -CB |

You know, if Steinberg would get a clue and integrate the loop tools that Acid provides...I wouldn't use Acid anymore. I love Cubase SX, but I don't use it for full music projects because I've grown so fond of the speed of just dropping any acidized loop into Acid, moving it here and there, chopping it up and rearranging it...priceless stuff. SOFO definitely has the right idea with integrating all these new features in 4.0, but for crying out loud, when are they ever going to become stable enough to work with? I think I'm going to contact Steinberg now. |
