Is V4 or V4+DVD best for my situation?

I have Ulead and Roxio and found them to be limiting for what i want to do.

I am wanting to make a SVCD or VCD (depends on quantity of material) with a traditional DVD type menu where you either scroll to the button or push the correlating number.

The criteria i am lacking with the other programs is that i want to use a custom background and custom buttons. A bonus would be the ablity to move the location of the buttons where ever i want rather than have them centered.

Will i be able to do this with V4 or do i need to spend the extra $$ on +DVD?

Thanks
Chris

You can't make SVCD"S or VCD's with +DVD. You would need to get VV3 for that. They removed the option to make VCD's in VV4. Youcan make the files, but cant create the VCD.

Then why is there an option Tool - Burn CD - Video CD in Vegas 4? And why does the Vegas 4 help file tell you how to do it if it is not there?

My most humble apologies to all! I don't have +dvd and I thought I had read earlier that you couldnt do VCD's with V4. Very sorry. I will research more next time before posting.

You can NOT burn SVCD or VCD using DVD Architect. DVD architect in only of DVD authoring. Download the manual and it will enlighten you of your doubts.

The Tools - Burn CD - Video CD is in VEGAS and NOT DVDA. DVDA can only do DVDs but Vegas can still do VCDs. You don't need "+ DVD" to get VCDs. You also cannot get menus for your VCDs. You may want to try something like Nero for burning VCDs after Vegas has rendered the MPEG file.

Chris,

I think Roxio Easy CD Creator will get you the closest to what you want. I have Adaptec Easy CD Creator, which I think is the predecessor. I’ve made really nice VCD’s with EZCD.

This is not possible. The VCD spec doesn’t support highlighting buttons or button navigation. It ONLY supports number selection. That’s as good as it gets for VCD/SVCD.

Adaptec Easy CD Creator Deluxe will allow you to make your own MPEG motion background menus for VCD’s. (I’ve done them). What you do is create a nice motion background on the Vegas timeline. Then create a menu overlay with buttons wherever you want. Don’t forget to number them because you can only name number selections with a VCD with the exception of forward, next, and return to menu which work just like a DVD. You then render that as an MPEG1 file using the VCD template and tell Roxio to use that as a menu. You can link these any way you want. You can also include a Play All option by making a new chain of links to all the MPEG files. This is not automatic and you really have to read the manual. It’s very manual but the results are worth the effort. I don't know if Roxio Easy CD Creator still lets you do this.

As others have stated, Vegas 4 doesn’t allow you to add menus to VCD’s and +DVD doesn’t do VCD or SVCD, it just does DVD.

If you have Roxio, read the manual and give it another try. It is possible that Roxio doesn’t have the same VCD Creator that Adaptec Easy CD Creator does in which case all of this will not work for you. As I said, I don’t have Roxio but the older product (EZCD) made really nice VCD’s.

I think I may have made a bad assumption about Roxio. I assumed Chris meant Roxio Easy CD Creator for making VCD’s but I realize now that they bought MGI VideoWave and he could mean Roxio VideoWave. If you do have Roxio VideoWave then everything I said about making VCD’s in this post does not apply. I was referring to a different Roxio product. It looks like they have changed their Easy CD product and so you may not be able to do what I suggested. You may need to find a copy of the older Adaptec Easy CD Creator Deluxe to get the VCD support I describe here.
