I have Acid Pro 4.0 and everything worked fine. I recently upgraded my Gfx card to a ATI Radeon 9700 and also installed Directx 9.0 (for gaming purposes).

After a system restart, I attempted to start acid pro 4.0 and was presented with a dialogue box containing a "kernel 32.dll" error message. My system doesn't crash, I dont get a blue screen.

I have checked the directx 9.0 web page and it says that directx 9.0 should be fully backwards compatable with applications that did work using directx 8.1 (for music / video processing) - however, it does include a "waiver" that some issues can occur...

I also have Acid Music 3.0 installed and strangely, this still works fine .....

My system spec:

AMD 1.6 plus Athlon processor
ATI Radeon 9700 gfx card (2.5 drivers)
Creative Soundblaster live 5.1 player (with the latest available creative drivers)
512DDR ram (pc133)
ample hard drive space

Has anyone else encountered this problem with Durectx 9.0?

I haven't. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling ACID Pro?

Thank you for your reply.

I have tried a full un-install, reboot and re-install and Acid Pro 4.0 works fine. When I close the pc down for the night and reboot the next day, the same issue occurs (kernel32.dll as explained above).

Anybody else have any ideas ?

Don't ask me...as far as I'm concerned, i was told to stick with 8.1, 5.5 and 98SE for the rest of my life..!

I didn't see any OS mentioned, but it looks like the Radeon drivers might've been updated since v2.5... That might be worth a shot.

Thanks SonicJG - good point - Windows ME

I have tried to install the latest drivers (3.1 / 7.83 depending on where you download them from) but no matter where I try to download them from, I get installation errors (access denied etc).

The operating system has not been set up with users and obviously as its not an NT based OS, admin rights shouldn't really be required to install software / drivers.

Hi Manny,

Be absolutely sure that your previous Radeon drivers are uninstalled before installing the new ones. (Go to Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs. It should say something like "ATI Display Driver".)

have you ever considered using your computer for only music? I guess it depends on how serious you are....but I think that it's good idea to have a dedicated music work station....
