Popping Audio During Capture

I have this problem when capturing over firewire where I'll get popping and cracking in my audio. I can hear it while capturing and while playing back. If I fast forward the tape a bit and then rewind it a bit, eventually it will start playing back okay, but the crackling will always return.

I've tried everything I can think of to rememdy this. It hasn't always happened, but I can't pinpoint exactly when it started. Does anyone out there have any ideas?

Jim, I have noticed the popping sounf to every so often when capturing, I have never hear it when playing back the file. The playing back part sounds strange. :(

Hm....I get subtle popping and crackling during playback of the file, but not during capture.

I've always experienced very small amounts of dropped frames and/or distorted audio in my captures using any combination of my XL1s, JVC miniDV/VHS deck, and two computers (Dell and P4PE). All of the equipment is in the same room, and I've started to wonder if I have a dirty power supply. I've read that UPS systems clean the power stream and I'm thinking of getting one. Anyone know if this is a possibility?

Last night, I didn't try listening to it after capture. Previously, I have noticed that it is there during playback, but I will check again.

I noticed last night that if I resize the capture window (by dragging the Capture app window to a new size so that the video preview resizes), it clears up the crackling for a short while. Very strange.

If anyone has any other ideas, I'm willing to listen! :)
