It`s my guess that quite a few of you out there are using this combination to produce your recorded music, could one of you kind souls please help me understand this latency issue?(I`m a guitarist so be gentle with me) Normally I use Acid sync`d up to my Korg1600 letting Acid do the loops and the Korg handle the vocals etc but today I tried to record straight into Acid and noticed a slight time delay of recorded parts on playback. I was lead to believe that I would not get this prob with the 'low latency' Audiophile. I have my preferences set to ASIO with a 7ms offset as advised by M Audio. Could someone please take a little time and explain where I`m going wrong or is Acid just not suitable for live recording. How have you configured your systems? is my CPU too weak (1.1g Athlon)? HELP ME...love, ss. |

I'm a guitarist too, using a DigiTech GNX2 guitar effects processor with the Audiophile via S/PDIF. I think it's a driver issue. I use to have about a half second delay when recording via ASIO no matter what the latency was set at, but have no such issues with WDM (Windows Classic Wave). Have you tried the WDM driver model? If you hardly record MIDI, you shouldn't see too much of a difference. (Quality in recording, I mean.) HTH, Iacobus |

God I`m confused now, no I haven`t tried the WDM driver but I`ve just discovered it in my drop down list. I crashed the PC last week and had to rebuild it from the ground up, I never used to have this driver, must`ve been part of an update I d/loaded. Anyhoo Iacobus thanx for replying judging by the amount of posts you`ve had on this forum you sure know your way round this Sonic Foundry stuff. Can I ask you a big favour? I`m old, pretty dumb when it comes to Music s/ware, I`m in the UK and it`s now 3.20am and like I said I`m totally confused. The Audiophile is my sole soundcard, everything has to be routed through it`s patchbay, how in heavens name do I set it up if I use this other driver? I need to monitor input and output at the same time (naturally) I`m just totally lost. I saw something written about this driver, it said, as you do that latency becomes a thing of the past. I really need to get this rubbish sorted out and get on with my songs, like I said I`m old and there`s a war round the corner. My e-mail is charlie@stubbings8959.freeserve.co.uk could you find it in your heart to mail me direct and offer a guiding hand? I would be forever in your debt. I`ll totally understand if this isn`t possible it`s just that I feel the fog may be clearing and that you could dramatically speed up the process. Thanks for your time mate, Charlie(",) |

I think i've got a solution for the latency issue with delta series (24/96) cards. I have an audiophile as well and experienced the same problem (8ms in the control panel, but sounds way late in acid.FIX.....:record along with a simple 4/4 drum loop, then magnify as far as you can with the time ruler showing milliseconds. Then figure out the offset between the two audio files and disable the automatic latency detection in preferences. After that is done, set the hardware latency offset slider ahead the correct number of milliseconds (mine was 40ms).Now the audio lines up perfectly using the asio driver.Reply if this helps |

That does definitely work. I think I mentioned that to songsmith via email. Iacobus |
