Subject:NEW TRACKS - OUT OF SYNC ISSUES (Acid vs Sonar)

I'm convinced i can get more than 4 extended length tracks on my Acid 4.0 dedicated laptop. I have a Dell Inspiron Pentium III, 40GB HD (with an external 40GB HD just for music files) controller rates 7200, 512 RAM, an ESS Maestro II sound card that I believe I completely bypass for recording and playback by running in and out from my Edirol UA-1A and running everything through my mixer. I can get 3 tracks of extended lengh tracks but no more before having synch problems. I've tried adjusting playback buffering and latency setting, but nothing works. Can someone honestly just tell me if they think I'd have the same issues with an alternative application such as Sonar which is not considered a "loop based" program, but a full audio production program. |

please tell me you don't have an external usb drive for audio. if so, that + usb sound card = drama on any system. your rig is probably having trouble sending/recieving data through your usb bus/irq. i suggest you use firewire instead of usb for your audio drive so that you'll have seperate irqs for your devices. check this out: http://www.bixnet.com/30poci13firp.html |

Dude, check this out... It's Acid. I just downloaded Cakewalk Sonar 2.0 and it did a diagnostic on my system, I just armed and recorded approximately 26 flawless extended length tracks just to see if I could. I also found out that my sound card is a 32-bit professional audio card and the Edirol UA-1A (yes, USB connection) is more than sufficient to get no-latency sound for recording and playback. I guess as I had mentioned in a previous posting, Acid just isn't capable of recording more than 2 extended length tracks without synch issues, simply because it's a loop based application (and of course, it's buried sort of deep in their literature), but I'm a happy camper now. NOW WORRIES HERE -- SONAR 2.0 to the RESCUE! |

You might want to look at Vegas. the interface looks similar to acid. |

Just a suggestion, but I know that the Acid Pro family of products has not fixed a bug in the tempo sync which occurs when you have the "Preserve Pitch" radio button checked. I've had no problems syncing tracks as long as this button is not checked. One way to go about fixing this is to lay out your tracks with the preserve pitch when changing tempo button checked, then solo the given track and then render it to a new track (keep preserve pitch when changing tempo off on this new rendered track which might be out of sync like +/- 0.003 BPMs which shouldn't create that dramatic of a change in pitch when changing the tempo. Hope that helps a little. |

had you stated you were trying to record them all at once i would have pointed you to a multi-track recording app. |

And of course the most common mistakes are failing to label the extended tracks as "One shots" and setting for max RAM playback. That'll get you out-of-sync in a flash if you don't get that straight. But Sonar is optimized for multiple audio tracks, Acid isn't, and isn't supported as a multi-track app. |
