Subject:Paragraphic EQ error?

I have a .wav file with peaks around -4db. I was experimenting with the Paragraphic EQ and put in some rather modest settings (+/- 1 db in a few places, low shelf, high shelf, etc.). After the EQ is processed almost the entire wave file in maxed out at 0db. So, I removed each Paragraphic setting one-by-one to see which one causes this problem. I eventually removed every setting so there was no paragraphic EQ change specified; no dry-out, no wet-out, nothing. It was "0 db change" everywhere. After I click OK to process it, almost all of the wave file still gets increased to 0 db. It's also not a graphical wave display anomaly; you can hear it on playback.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

"No dry-out, no wet-out" would be -Inf for both and would be silence (though wet only goes down to -25 dB in paragraphic EQ).

If wet and dry are both set to 0 dB, that's just an additive mix of the original and the processed result, so you'd *expect* a 6 dB gain (with no filter settings).

Single sample example: dry = 0.5 (-6 dB), wet = 0.5 (-6 dB), wet + dry with no attenuation is 0.5 + 0.5 = 1 (0 dB).

Perhaps you actually intend dry = -Inf and wet = 0 dB?

J.

Looks like you're right; thanks.
