Subject:OT: ANYONE WANT TO SUGGEST A SUBWOOFER?

i'm trying to do things right. i've needed a subwoofer for a while proven by the last project i did where the mastering engineer had to clean up alot of the lowend.

even he suggested that i get a sub. he stated that was the problem with most mixes coming out of small project studios using nearfields. you can't properly mix what you can't hear.

this wouldn't be a problem if i had a pair of mackie hr824s, which go down to 39hz, but i'm using tannoy reveals. i love them but they only go down to 65hz, plus who has $1400-1000 extra to spend on new monitors?

so i've done my research and i've narrowed it down to three subwoofers based on price, specs, and reviews.

1. tannoy ps110 - this is the one tannoy suggests but it's not magnetically shielded.

2. yamaha SW305 - i think this is a consumer sub but it's sold in most music stores. it has better specs than the tannoy yet it's $150 cheaper.

3. M-AUDIO SP8S

i'm not considering the samson resolv 120a (only goes down to 40hz and i don't trust samson) or genelec or mackie subs (too expensive and too much power for my neighbors).

anyone have experience with these subs?

I would tend to think the Tannoy would be a better match for your current Reveals.
You can place the sub almost anywhere, so shielding shouldn't be a problem.

I have a Tannoy PS110B and it is very good. Since I started using it, my mixes translate very well to other systems. Getting the bottom right on nearfields can be learned, but the sub eliminates the learning curve. Make sure you take the time to set up the subwoofer properly.
