see i thought that i read that audio loops should be seperate from live recorded tracks because the drive has to search around less to pull all of the media? i read this on sound on sound... this is what he said, (but he is talking about 2 different programs but i thought that it might be the same for acid...)he says... "If you run GigaStudio or HALion, you don't really want your streaming audio library on the same drive as your recorded audio tracks: this will degrade performance of them both, as the read/write heads are thrashing about from one part of the drive to the other. However, with two drives, the only alternative is to place your library on a dedicated partition on your Windows drive. Although not a perfect solution, this is what I've done as in practice, the Windows partition is unlikely to be accessed very often by your MIDI + Audio sequencer, as long as you have sufficient RAM installed to avoid the swap file being accessed"... here's the link... http://www.sospubs.co.uk/sos/apr02/articles/pcmusician0402.asp please let me know what you guys think... thanks |

In ACID, Loops are always loaded into RAM, One-shots are loaded into RAM if they are 3 seconds or less, and Beatmapped tracks always playback from your hard drive. The statement, "...with two drives, the only alternative is to place your library on a dedicated partition on your Windows drive," doesn't really wash with me where ACID is concerned. If Loops or short One-shots are placed on the same drive as Beatmapped or recorded tracks, it doesn't matter. Loops and short One-shots are always loaded into RAM and stay there. This may be different for GigaStudio or HALion but not ACID. Iacobus |
