i cant seem to be able to add tracks and hear them. also i cant see them.
i use the explorer window to retrieve the track but when i add it to the project
it does not display in the top part where the track is and when i choose play i cant hear it. now i can double click the colored bar and go to track properties to hear it but cant seem to do anything with the main window.

When you double clic on the loop in the explorer window, do you see a header appear with the loop name at the top?
If yes, did you "paint" the loop in using the mouse(hold down left mouse button while dragging towards the right on the track)?

Because of the nature of Acid, it wouldn't be a good idea to have the loops load without painting.
Acid is first and foremost a loop assembly tool where you assemble loops in sequences that you determine in order to get the song completed. Becuse of this you have to select where exactly you want the loop started and how long you want it to play.
That's why if you want a complete track to show up, you also need to paint it in.

As far as the drum beats mentioned on the site...not sure which ones you're referring to. Could you post a link to that page?

When you purchased AP 4.0, you were asked if you wanted the free content CD shipped to you free of charge. The loops are on that CD. Or, if you bought the boxed version, the content CD is in there.
Be sure to read the PDF manual for AP4, you'll find out what the "Get Media" tab is for (free loops every month). Also, check out www.acidplanet.com for free 8-Packs every week.

As far as the synth issue...I can't help you there, I'm still using AP 3.0 (no synth). Maybe someone with 4.0 can chime in here.

There are a number of free VSTi synths over at K-v-R. There are a few free ones also on Computer Music magazine's CD-ROM.

Note that you should read up on the use of VSTi's in ACID Pro 4.0, especially if you've never used VSTi's before.

Check out the full ACID Pro 4.0 manual, specifically pp. 111 and 138. Be sure to also check out p. 169, which tells you how to set up your VSTi instruments to be seen by ACID.

You can also check out the tutorials on ACID Pro 4.0. (Broadband is recommended.)

VSTi's come as DLL's that go into a folder of your choosing. It would be wise to create own with a title like, "vstplugins," or something similar in the root of your hard drive. Some VSTi's have an install routine, and some you simply drag their associated DLL to your specified VSTi folder.

Iacobus
