Subject:Acid 4.0b crashes when trying to add MIDI file...
Posted by: jtuffen

Well, I don't know what happened - this used to work for me (only thing I installed AFAIK was Vegas 4.0 beta - now uninstalled). I get a crash whenever I try and add a new MIDI file to an Acid project...
I can safely load/edit previous projects which used MIDI, btw.

System Spec:
P4, 2.4GHz;
256MB DDRAM;
Abit BD7ii mobo;
MaxiStudio ISIS soundcard;
Win98SE;
3GB + 10GB IDE drives, SCSI CDrom (Tekram DC310 SCSI card)

Cheers,

john..

There could be a myriad of causes. One thing to try is to uninstall and then reinstall ACID.

Windows 98SE is not as stable as Windows XP or 2000. You should seriously consider upgrading to one of those OS's as soon as possible. (To put it in perspective, since I've had XP for close to a year now, I've had only one crash, and that was only because of a buggy hardware driver.)

Yeah, I know that 98se is getting a bit long in the tooth, but my soundcard doesn't have XP drivers... I'm going to have to wait a bit until I can afford to replace both OS and soundcard.... :(

Thanks,

john..

And I beg to differ slightly that 98SE is not as stable as XP...it took ONE CRASH for me to forget XP; that crash was about 3 weeks long, and took at least 3 people to just scratch their heads, and me, and say, "I have no idea what the hell.."; I can't even remember the error message, but it was one sentence on a death screen...I would try a reinstall with any app you have trouble with, and if you don't have it, a CLEAN INSTALL of 98SE is what folks do as a matter of annual cleanup; that's the nice thing about having a 2d larger hard drive also, which you should have anyway for dedicated audio/.wav files...get another computer if you're serious about XP, lap or desk, and use it in tandem, but instead of Gateway or whatever, check out the local boys on what they say...who the hell needs the new microsoft office and endamncarta or whatever, bundled with a new setup...check out the sonar site for folks that do that on the cheap as well; DAW setups...
