Subject:Recording Question....

I'm trying to combine 4 midi's together, and record them as one midi (about 18 mins). Which shouldn't be hard with Acid. When I record, it seems like it's working fine, but when it gets to the end of the last midi, it continues recording blank sound. Yet when I "stop" the recording when it gets to the end, the newly made midi is a corrupt file. Can someone please tell me how to set the recording to stop at a certain place?! And also, how do I know what sort of output the newly created midi can handle? Thanks in advance! ~Angie~ |

Somebody? Anybody? I know it should probably be common knowledge, but I just got this program yesterday, and I'm in a super hurry to learn it. |

Do you just want to bounce down the MIDI tracks into one track for neatness, or do you want to come back to this MIDI file later and make adjustments? You could simply open the MIDI tracks one by one in the Piano Roll Editor, copy the notes and then switch to another track and paste them. HTH, Iacobus |

I'm trying to bounce them into one file, so that I can use a program called Jugglor to attach the midi to a Flash movie I made. So that I will have a stand alone movie presentation, with the music in the background to play from a laptop at the convention. This is all very new to me, and I'm confused. =P |

Have you tried rendering the MIDI to WAV? (File>Render As on the menu bar.) Flash allows WAV file import. You can also render MP3 from ACID and import that into Flash. HTH, Iacobus |

Yeah, I've tried that already, but the file is just tooo huge in wav format, and it takes almost as long for it to decompress the mp3 file. So there's no way to do what I'm trying to in Acid Pro? =( |

You could set the Loop Region over a certain amount (say, about the first 3 to 6 minutes) and chop up and render the project that way (using the "render loop region only" option). You could then take these portions and insert them into your Flash project as you see fit. Still, if you use WAV, the files will still be relatively large. Using MP3 will give a slight pause of silence at the beginning and end of the file. (It's inherent to the format.) Is file transport an issue? HTH, Iacobus |

No, the file transport isn't a problem. The Flash projector file is over 20 megs as it is, so it'll be on cd. Even if I only render the looped section of a certain number of minutes, it'll still be in .wav or .mp3 format, and remain huge? It can't be rendered as a midi. So there is no way in Acid Pro to combine 4 midi's and record it as one track? |

You could just render everything to MP3, as that will yield the smallest file size yet still retain quality. However, at 18 minutes, you're going to have to wait for it to be rendered. That's just the nature of the beast, as the audio must be compressed in real time. An 18 minute MP3 won't be that big, depending on the bit rate. A 128 Kbps MP3 would take up about 20 MB, give or take a couple MB. You could also playback in ACID and record externally in an app like Sound Forge and then save the results as an MP3. That would be weird to do, but it's possible. HTH, Iacobus |

Ok, so you're saying there is no way to get the end result of an 18 minute Midi?? The reason I'm so concerned about getting a midi, is because that's all Jugglor will attach to the flash projector file. And it could take forever to cut the MP3, because I have over 30 scenes in the movie, and there is no way to import a song, and make it play over multiple scenes. Am I out of luck? Please say no. |

Sure, but the end result won't be MIDI—it'd be MP3 instead. Don't you have/use Flash, or have access to the Flash app itself? The way I'd do it: In Macromedia Flash, I'd export my presentation to either AVI or QuickTime format. I'd import the resulting video into ACID Pro (which ACID Pro can do). This file would be for reference only so that I can score and cue music precisely where I want the music to be. Once I'm done scoring, I'd render the result to MP3. It'd then simply be a matter of importing the MP3 into the Flash project itself in Flash, which I'd then render as a Flash presentation in SWF format.
