For some reason ACID 4.0b 317 keeps locking up and crashing in the middle of playback. I'm recording at 44k, 24 bit stereo, brand new pc system winXP with Audigy 2 card. If you ask me to turn off all other things running in the background etc., can you point me to a place or document for help on how. Thanks. |

You might want to head on over to Creative's support site. I guess new WDM drivers were released fairly recently in February. Have you tried 16-bit/44.1 kHz playback? I know Creative claims true 24-bit audio this time around (vs. the first iteration of the Audigy), but I can only trust them as far as I could throw them (which wouldn't be very far). Also check out MusicXP.net. Great tips offered there. To turn off any background apps, use CTRL+ALT+DELETE on your keyboard and turn off everything under the Applications tab. You can also check out anything under the Processes tab, but be absolutely sure you know what process you're ending. If you don't know, leave it alone. Also try going to Start>Run and in the "Open" field, type msconfig and click OK. Go to the Startup tab and uncheck any startup items. Be aware, though, that some programs are very persistent and might add themselves again in the list. Quite possibly the only way to get rid of such an item is either to hack the Registry or completely uninstall the program. HTH, Iacobus |

I went to Creative and got the new wdm drivers and installed them, still same problem. I even tried recording a new project at 44k, 16 bit but same problem. This problem doesn't happen all the time, only when I don't need it to happen which is any time. Could it be that so many of my tracks are one shots? I'll use a couple acid loops for drums but the rest of the new tracks are one shots. |

Not sure. One-shots only stream from your hard drive if they are longer than 3 seconds. Other than that, they load into RAM. Try turning some of your One-shot tracks into Loops. Solo a One-shot track and set the Loop Region over a desired area you want to keep. Use CTRL+M on your keyboard to bounce down. By default, if the sample being bounced is shorter than 30 seconds, it should turn into a Loop. (You can also access the properties of your One-shot track and turn it into a Loop, but this isn't as eloquent or exact as bouncing down.) The default for determining that a sample be a Loop can be changed by going to the Audio tab under Options>Preferences on the menu bar. You can go up to 5 minutes (300 seconds). Be aware this will eat your RAM like candy. HTH, Iacobus |
