i'm getting some help here but i'm still having problems myself. i'm running acid 4.0, on a 1 gig processor p3, 512mb ram, 2 60 gig drives, with windows me, m audio 24/96 audiophile sound card. my problem is when i'm recording live tracks and playing them back, it's running good, but i found that when i put the acoustic mirror plug in on certain tracks i start to get skips and pops. do i need to adjust the lantency on acid or on my sound card or both? if so any suggestionson good settings. i feel this computer should be plenty fast enough and has plenty of memory. also what i do is, i have the acid program installed on the second hard drive, and run everything off of that, but i noticed that there still are acid program files on c drive, could this be a problem? should i just install acid on the c drive and use the second drive to store the audio tracks? sorry this is so long but i need HELP!!! thanks

Accoutic mirrors are power hungry. Do you notice you get more pops depending on how many you add. In other words, do you get more crackles when you add more acc. mirrors.
How many do you have going when it starts to break up?

yeah i had 2 maybe 3 running. does it matter if you have more than 1 track running into the same AM. in other words what if i had tracks 1,2,3,4 all running into the same AM. thanks

Are you using busses or adding an acc mirror to each individual track?
I just tried an 8-pack with an acc mirror on 6 tracks through buss A, and 2 tracks with a second acc mirror through buss B...no break-up on my 850 Athlon and the meter showed 17/512 RAM used.

PS: I'm using Acid 3.0 latest update.

each individual track, and i also used it as an assignable effect and sent 3or4 tracks to it that way. also while you here, take a look at the other post i have up about what hard drive to install acid on and tell me what you think. thanks for all the help

To save on power while using acoustic mirror make sure the quality/speed dial is set to 2-3[or less depending on your system]. It won't sound that great but you'll get a good idea of what to tweak to get the result you need. THEN when your done set it all the way to 5 and render to new track...Ctrl+M. Then save your settings and remove AM from the other track + mute the track to conserve cpu. When you set it to 5 for rendering purposes it will render out to the highest quality. This plug is best used in soundforge 6.

AM is not so much processor hungry, but sample data hungry. AM was never designed for use in real-time. It forces any audio app to stream VERY far ahead of the actual cursor/playback position effectively changing the over all latency. What ever the size (duration) of the impulse file you use in AM will become the overall system latency.

One instance of AM is doable, maybe 2, 3 or more, I don't care what kind of hardware you throw at it, it will cause you problems.

On other comment on general use.

Applying reverbs to each track is both expensive and a somewhat odd way to work.

A reverb is intended to put a "mix" into a space. Sure there are many cases where a reverb on a particular part of a mix makes sense - vocals for example. The best way to work with reverbs is to set up an Assignable FX in ACID and then "send" from the tracks you want to add some verb to. This gives you better control and really reduces your CPU usage. A single reverb or AM can then be used to add some space to many tracks in the mix.

I am not saying this is the only way to do it - and ACID will let you do it in a lot of different ways - but is is something to consider as far as keep you CPU usage with FX processing down.

Are you trying to add a snare loop to your project? Did you try either drawing or painting in an event once the track is added? (What kind of track type is the snare? One-shot? Loop?)

What you're asking isn't very clear.

Did you read the PDF manual? It's really helpful.
Also, you can consult the help file.

You don't have to, no.

I'm thinking digital audio rather than MIDI. If the snare is digital audio, it's simply a matter of adding it to the project and drawing/painting an event on the timeline.

Using a snare via a VSTi is a little more complicated. You'll have to make the VSTi available as a synth via ACID's preferences, insert the VSTi to your project, and then route a MIDI track to that VSTi. Then you have to draw/record a MIDI note to assign and play the snare. (Which note is all dependent on the VSTi being used.)

Acid Xpress is free. You can download it from the link below.

http://www.sonicfoundry.com/download/Step2.asp?DID=155

You don't get to add effects with Xpress, but that shouldn't be a problem for you. Render your completed project as a wave file and edit that in your other pirated wave editors. Look at the advantage of downloading Acid Xpress...it would be at least ONE "legally acquired" program on your PC.
