Canon ZR45MC compatiblity.

SF's knowledge base does not list the ZR45MC as a known Vegas compatible component. I have seen some comments "out there" that mention a problem with some Canons being unable to hold a bus assignment. I also may be afflicted with a Dell proprietary issue with my IEEE. Is anyone out there successfully Capturing and Print-to-tape with the ZR45MC. Even better, anyone with a Dell PC/Canon DVC/external drive configuration up and running??? Grob (Hi Grazie)

I have a Canon ZR40. It works flawlessly with V V 3.0 and Vegas 4. I'm using an OHCI compliant Adaptec Firewire card.

I have a Canon ZR45 it works fine.

Couple issues, both minor. The camera for some reason does not respond directly from the menu choices so I at least can't get to to 'print to tape' from the timeline. However no problem for me, since I render as a AVI file first to disk, then open the media pool, open file, locate the file I just rendered then Vegas controls the camera fine allowing easy 'print to tape' and 'capture' remotely driving the camera if it is in play (VCR mode).

One other minor thing more a "Windows" problem is you may need to cycle the camera off/on to get Windows to "see" the camera and properly interface with it. This again for me at least sometimes means I may need to turn on, turn off the camera, then back on again, before Vegas will take control. Maybe its because I'm left-handed. <wink> Sorry, I'm in a silly mode. OK, more than usual.

Thanks to all. I'm not in a position to take my ZR45 to another PC and verify that my problems aren't in the Canon itself. BTW BillyBoy, I can get the PTT from timeline to control the camera, but only the prerenders on C come through clean, my media clips streaming from an external drive are trashed with blue screen. Dell Inspiron 8200 w/XP home. Thanks again. Grob

Have any of you experienced a loss of Audio. I have edited some audio tracks with Sound Forge and saved copies of the file back into VV3. When I go to print to tape the audio is gone. Just on these particular audio pieces that I've edited. What's confusing is that I've performed this procedure before and have had no problems. Any ideas to what is the problem here? Grob is that what's happening to you?

Scott, sorry but I can't help you there. My problem is erratic and frequent "blue screen" video and audio loss when printing to tape from an external drive. I'm just grasping at straws by verifying that the Canon I'm using isn't mis-matched in some fundamental way. Good luck with your issue. Grob

I also use a Conon ZR45MC. In addition to what everyone has said, I also use it for doing real-time external preview without any problems.

Grob - Did you notice BB said he had to turn on/off his cammy to get V recognise it as a device to PTT to? Sound familiar?

Is your external drive on the same firewire port as the camera?

Grazie, "off and on" yes? I get "DV IN" on my camcorder when I sequence it right. You too, as I remember.

Dave, Nope. Both Grazie and I have our camcorder in/out on integral firewires, and external drives on PCMCIA firewire adaptors. Even though my Belkin PCM firewire has two ports, mine system degrades even further if both camcorder and external are paralled into the same card.

Having two firewire devices on the same interface especially one for a task as demanding as print to tape, with the other controling the camera may be a bit much.
