I noticed that ACID has the ability to have up to 26 busses, I am trying to set up my studio, and I have about 3 sound cards right now, but a mixer comes with 24:), I was wondering if anyone knew any motherboards that came with 26-30 PCI slots for different sound cards, if not, are their any other ways to get that many sound cards? (internal or external) The reason that I need that many is so you can mix on a soundboard and therefore make it live. your help is much appriciated:) -Dj_P.M. |

If you're going to spend that much money on sound cards, you would probably be better off buying Vegas and a couple or three AUDIO cards with multiple inputs. The ones I've heard of have 8-10 inputs each, and since Vegas can handle multiple tracks, it may be a little more feasible. I think the way in which you're suggesting is a little extreme and probably too expensive if not impossible. Can't say for sure, but 26-30 PCI slots? Good grief...I don't know if such a thing exists. Best of luck to you. HTH, Steve |

man i hope you have someone knowledgable helping you setup. 26-30 PCI slots? um...no. not even in a server. the slots alone would need their own power generator. i'll take this as just a joke or miscommunication, but humor you nonetheless. if you looking to have every channel on your mixing console to have a corresponding input and output you have to wrong program and the wrong interface. acid it not designed to be a multitrack in that respect. you need vegas (blatant SOFO plug) or some other multrack app like cubase, nuendo, logic, protools, sonar, etc. there are many interfaces that have 8-10 ins/outs: aardvark, motu, and esi off the top of my head. but do you really need to record that many sources at the same time? or do you just want to use your analog board to mix each track? if the latter is the case just go get a couple of adats and call it a day. |

Check out Mark of the Unicorn. They may have something that can help you. But Acid is not the app. you want for this. You need something much more complicated. |

Uh ... what are you trying to accomplish? If you want to send each track from Acid into it's own channel on a mixer then I think you need to re-think your setup. It can be done, but why? What are you trying to send to? Are you just trying to mixdown to two-track? Stay in the box for that ... Are you trying to record that many tracks at once? If so ... why? ACID won't do that for you, and I don't even know if there's a machine out there that could handle that many tracks being recorded at once. If you're trying to record a symphony, you'd be better of with three ADATs. |

There are such things as PCI extender boards that can add 6-8 PCI slots. They are expensive ($500+) and will add latency to the PCI bus. This latency is probably not a problem for audio compared to other apps (i work in printer design - a full page 8x10 image has about as much data as 40 minutes of 16/44.1 stereo audio). |
