i have 2 7200 rpm drives in my system and i have acid installed and running from the slave drive which has 8 mb cache, which is why i choose to install the program on that one. i also have all of my audio files and i record live tracks to the same drive. is this right or should i install the acid program on the master drive with the os on and use the slave just for the audio? thanks

You want your audio drive as master on the second IDE channel, so it has it’s own interrupt. The Acid application would usually go with the OS on the C drive.

My PC isn't dedicated to audio editing only. It's the family PC that I use for this purpose also(hey, my kids have to do their homework too).
I've got Acid 3.0 on my system disk along with all the other programs that are required on a family PC(word processor, typing tutor, games, anti-virus, etc).
My second hard-drive is for my A/V projects ONLY.
On this I've got all my loop libraries and also folders I've labeled ACID PROJECTS, VEGAS PROJECTS, SOUND FORGED WAVES(wave files edited in Sound Forge for use in Acid).
I've got folders for 8-Packs and Get Media files. When I download these I install them in their respective folders and I know where to find them quickly.
For me this has worked well.

so your saying that you keep all of your files on another drive but the acid program itself is on the same drive as the os, correct?

Basic IDE Cable Setup

Cable #1/CH 1
Master/C: = ACID
Slave/D: = CDROM/CDR/DVD

Cable #2/CH 2
Master/E: = Rough Audio + ACID Project File
Slave/F: = Finished Audio
