Greetings: I use soind forge studio. Have been working on a notebook with an external sound card ua 20, an Edirol product. Just got a desktop dell 8250. the ua 20 not working properly. Maybe can fix--but not sure want to stay with an external card. What's some good options. Please suggest some internal cards that would help me create best voice audio. I am making tapes.cds for my work. I use a Shure 58 microphone. Also--do you think the ua 20 is a good product to use with a desktop? Thank you...Ullie |

What's the problem with the UA-20 exactly? I noticed that unit doesn't have a mic preamp, which is a must with that microphone you're using. Anything from Echo or M-Audio is excellent. Great soundcards/audio interfaces with low noise floors. You'll almost certainly want one with a mic preamp, or get a separate preamp to interface with the soundcard. HTH, Iacobus |

They have a somewhat "naff" image, but in truth, the higher-end Creative Labs cards are very good. I recently installed an Audigy 2 Platinum - good spec on paper, and good results in practice. (I do what you do - voice recording!) The front panel, which you install into a spare bay on the front of the PC, is useful, too. |
