Subject:ACID doesn't like the Quattro?

I have been having a hell of a time using Acid Pro 4.0 with the ASIO drivers and my USB Quattro. NI Kontakt works like a dream with the Quattro, but Acid just locks up the system EVERY TIME I try to use it. It seems to run fine using the built-in laptop audio through the headphone port, but that is absolutely not an option in a live setting, which is the ONLY reason I even bought Acid. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? No blue screen of death, no error message, just complete system lock when using ASIO driver/USB Quattro? System Details: HP Pavilion notebook 1.5 ghz athlon 512 mb ram nothing else connected to the usb port other than the quattro, no other apps running, all background services completely minimized, uninstalled and reinstalled ALL audio/video drivers, quattro drivers, and acid completely-- where else should I look? thanks in advance... m |

What operating system are you using? Have you tried the beta drivers? (Believe it's only for Windows XP/2000 right now.) Using the latest build of ACID Pro 4.0? HTH, Iacobus |

What a surprise... I just bought the quattro yesterday. I've been usic Acid pro 3.0 through a standard soundblaster soundcard for a long time with no problems. Quattro installed OK and I can still use (and hear) the Acid files OK. What I cannot do is hear the backing track when recording vocals, etc with the Direct monitor button of the quattro "in". With the direct monitor button "out" I can hear the backing track but not the vocals. The computer is a new Compaq dedicated to Acid 3.0, Sound Forge and Adaptec CD burning software so I can't see why there should be problems. The previous PCI soundcard is disabled... Any ideas? I am running Windows XP, and I have installed all of the latest patches and service packs for XP. This machine is being used ONLY for audio, SoundForge 6, Acid 4, and Kontakt and that's IT. I did try installing the beta driver for xp but it didn't make a difference at all, and I went through the whole uninstall/reinstall process after that and haven't gone back to the beta driver. SoFo telephone tech support hours aren't condusive to getting anything done with my schedule, and no response to email yet... hopefully there's something I'm oveflooking since I have a show on 3/14 and need to get this junk up and running. |

Unfortunately, you cannot monitor your full mix while recording (and monitoring) vocals via the Quattro. That's actually not the Quattro's fault, but rather a limitation of USB 1.1. A way to solve it would be to connect your mic to a mixer, which would then go to the Quattro (via the mixer's main outs). You'd then connect the audio output of your Sound Blaster to the tape in of the mixer and monitor that way. HTH, Iacobus |

Try booting up in Safe Mode (repeatedly press F8 on your keyboard while your system boots until you see a menu) and then uninstall the Quattro driver. Reboot in normal mode and reinstall the driver. (I'm pretty sure the Quattro should be off when uninstalling drivers, but be sure via the Quattro's instructions for installing new drivers or just reinstalling existing ones.) HTH, Iacobus |

My Quattro works good, with the exception of 24bit ASIO in AP4. The beta drivers ver. 1.28rc5, are the only ones that work for me.....in Acid. M-Audio finally replied to a few of my emails. They are trying to reproduce some of the Sofo/m-audio issues. The beta drivers are 3 months old......sooo, maybe some new drivers will be coming out shortly. |

okay, i tried this and it worked for at least a little while. i did not want to press my luck, so i moved on to another thing, but i am pretty doubtful that i'll be able to recreate this sterling 5 minutes of performance tomorrow. thanks for the tip-- i had reinstalled it all in safe mode and made sure i used the 1.28 driver for the quattro and we'll see... m |
