Laptop 5.1

Hey,

I'm getting a new notebook soon, which I will use primarily for editing. Now, I really wanna take advantage of VV4's 5.1 capabilities, but I'm not sure how it works. Are 5.1 soundcards fairly common in Laptops? Easy to get I mean? How about an external SB Extigy? I know it has 5.1 but I'm not sure if it's just for decoding a DVD signal.

can anyone help me out?

Thanks in advance,

-Ayz

*bump*

I really need some help with this. What's a good notebook to get for 5.1 mixing in vegas? C'mon I'm sure some one could help me out. I'd REALLY appreciate it. I'm pretty confused as to wether or not I can even use the 5.1 capabilities of vegas on a notebook. Anyone doing this?

But I use a SBluster Audigy and the ac3 5.1 db is very OK? I think, sb extigy is the same. In this days i want buy a RME Hammerfall but the extigy is ok for 5.1...if you look description there's a spdif and optical outpot and these are perfect for decoding 5.1. RME cost 750$ (pci or pcmcia card) extigy 250...... uhmmmmm

p.s. my english is so so.. :-)

Hello,

If you want a pro-grade material, buy an RME. If you want a multimedia toy, buy SoundBlaster.

Isn't the same material quality for comparing between the two (Apples Vs. Oranges).

Why do you need the RME on the dell if it's got already got AC-3 capabilties? I'm a bit confused.

Also, has anyone actually used the extigy for vegas4?

Thanks for your replies guys. This is helping me a lot.

Hello,

Vegas can't use an A3 sound card. 3 stereo sound cards or a multichannel sound card are the Vegas needs. Best with Asio 2 drivers.

Cheers

Ah, I get it now. Thanks. So, it doesn't much matter what notebook you choose, as long as it's powerful enough an external Rme could be added to it, right? Or any another card even...

Are there any other cards that would work for vegas? Besides the two mentioned here?

Again, appreciating the help here..
