I'm finally at a point where I really, really need a vast improvement in I/O. (to avoid the abuse, I'll not mention what I'm using now :^)
I'll be making a purchase decision soon, but as always, I don't have the money for what I really want. My requirements are: low latency, ASIO compliance, hybrid XLR/balanced inputs (minimum two), phantom power, and 24 bit/96 KHz. I really haven't thought much about the pros and cons of USB vs. PCI, although USB does promise portability down the road should I ever acquire a suitable laptop.
So far, the Roland/Edirol UA-5 seems to be the best deal, offering all of the above (w/ USB) at a respectable price that seems to hover between $250-$275 USD. I know of at least one person who's had difficulty using a UA-5 with Vegas; not much troubleshooting was done, though, since he was using it (successfully) with another application. Does anyone have any UA-5 experience to share or know of anything else to recommend that'll do the above for similar money?
Thanks
momo
