Subject:any "standards" for great mixing?

Hello all..
i'm still new to mixing and stuff...do you guys have any "standards" to achieve a great mixing output ? I'd be very thankful if you could share some technics to me...

Do a search for "mixing" in the Acid forum, you'll find some good threads.

One big help is to pick a song that is in the same style as the song you are mixing. Refer to that song on CD during your mix. Try to match the different balences, panning, effects, etc. Also, read everything you can find about it.

i always suggest reading "an integrated approach to metering and leveling practices in the 21st century" by bob katz. it's an article on his site that you can download, www.digido.com ...explains a good deal about proper gain staging.
