No, I believe you don't need DVD Architect for ac3 and mpeg2 compatibility: there was no ac3 and mpeg2 options in the beta releases due to licensing issues. Both should be avaliable on the purchased versions.

you have to have DVD architect installed aswell, otherwise this is exactly what happens.

If you look here: http://www.sonicfoundry.com/Products/showproduct.asp?PID=808&FeatureID=6901 it says that VV4 does include mpeg2 encoding as well as the VV4 DVDA combo.

Might be a prob though as you'll read here: http://www.sonicfoundry.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=157731&Replies=8&Page=1

I posted in that other thread where I'd look, though that doesn't mean it'd pan out of course - that I would start at the right place etc... If the reg settings help once, then I'd think it a registry problem but could obviously be wrong.

What I would suggest is everyone haveing the problem list their specs etc. so maybe a pattern could be discerned that SOFO could use to diagnose & fix the prob.

This is how it is supposed to work:

- If you already have MPEG from VV3, you should be able to use it in Vegas 4 without any further registration, etc.

- If you don't already have MPEG, clicking Custom in Vegas 4 should take you to the registration dialog for MPEG. Alternatively, attempting to open an MPEG file or rendering to MPEG should show the MPEG registration dialog.

- DVD Architect does include MPEG and AC-3, but you'll need to register DVDA first before these will be available for use in Vegas 4.

- If you purchased Vegas 4 only (not Vegas+DVDA), then AC-3 is a separate purchase option. If you try to render to AC-3, you should be prompted to purchase it.

We will investigate your MPEG problems as it sounds like things are not working properly. Any details you can provide: Windows version, whether you're running a localized Windows (non-English version), service packs you've installed, etc. can help us diagnose and correct this issue.
