I'm thinking about purchasing the Antares Auto Tune. Have any of you used it? Does it work well in acid?

I haven't used Auto Tune in Acid but I use it all the time in Vegas and Sound Forge. Its really great...no problems at all. However, it can be a bit processor intensive so typically its best to process a file (or a copy) in Sound Forge and bring it back into your main app (Acid in this case).

Does it work as advertised? I want to mainly use it on vocals, but would like it avalable for such things as bass or native american flute (odd I know). I may be obsessing a little, but this is a pricy plug-in (at least it seems that way to me) and I want to be sure it will work. I know that it can't fix bad performances, so maybe the question it's self is a little silly. Sorry.

Its perfect for vocals and I've used it a great deal on ethnic flutes (bansuri and Native American). I've not used it on bass tho. Its not referred to as the "holy grail" of studio gear for nothing. ;-) For me, its indespensible!

There may be a demo you can download and see if it works for you.

I've used it on male and female vocals of all timbres and pitches. I did a project with about 30 different children's solos and it was magic for that, snapped them right to the pitch without altering the tonal quality of their voice. I've used it on violin, an old Mexican mandolin that had some tuning/fretting problems, an oud with very strange tuning, a fretless bass, I think I even ran a didgeridoo through it once and got a weird effect. In every case it worked great, sometimes with just a little tuning.
One of the most expensive plugins I ever bought but it gets the most use and is worth every cent.

I was reading a thread recently on the CM Forums about Autotune and somebody suggested a product called Oberheim as an alternative. I guess it uses the same audio engine as autotune but is significantly cheaper. Might be worth checking out.

There is also RBC Audio Tweaker.

Oberheim's "OBTune" is indeed the same engine as Antares Autotune but it is definitely a "lite" version and will only process mono files. The price is right tho: $50.

I'd be careful with Oberheim if you are running XP. I had it originally and when I upgraded it wouldn't work. They were kind enough to refund my purchase price and then I applied that to the full Autotune. I don't know if they have got if sorted out for the XP engine yet. Also, there were a number of much stronger setups that the full product could do. If you just need a 'lite' version and you're using an old OS, then Oberheim should be fine.

EDIT UPDATE: Just checked on www.musicyo.com and saw they had updated the Oberheim Autotune for XP. Pretty good price for entry level autotune correction.

I did a search on auto tune and it seems that most auto tune users are recomending to go with the full version ( rather than the oberheim. It seems that most people use it in Sound Forge rather than in ACID. This may be because of the amount of processing power this plug-in uses. I've got Sound Forge XP and I'm confused about using DX plug-ins in the program. I only get the express reverbs, chorus, etc. Can SF(5.0 &6.0)XP use DX plug-ins?

Both Sound Forge XP Studio 5.0 and Sound Forge Studio 6.0 do not have support for DirectX plug-ins. Only the full Sound Forge 5.0 or 6.0 do. (Sorry.)
