I have a midi file. The device is SB Audigy Snyth A. Is there an easy way to convert the midi sound into wav format? If I try to render the track it doesn't show. Ctrl+M does nothing. Thanks, Chris (Hunt) |

Weird. Try soloing the MIDI track in question and then setting the Loop Region over the whole event before bouncing down. (Be sure to check the "Render loop region only" option.) HTH, Iacobus |

Thanks, Iocubus. If I select render Acid only gives me the option to save as an ACD file. When I press CTRL+M nothing happens at all. I think I remember reading somewhere that in order to convert Wav to midi the device has to be a soft synth and not the sound card itself. If I use the DLS I can capture the audio without problem - but assigning the instruments I want to use with DLS synth is a chore - it won't co-operate with the midi OPT plugin GeneSys SF2 library. That Acid allows me to select the audigy soundcard's synth but won't let me bounce the sound down to Wav seems inconsistent and is also annoying. Chris |

You can't render an externally routed MIDI Track. The AB Audigy Synth A is not a softsynth, but an external MIDI port provided by hardware. Yes, it is a "softsynth", but one that is implemented in hardware. ACID can only render through a VSTi or the DLS softsynth. The only option you have is to record the output of your Audigy back into ACID. Peter |

>>That Acid allows me to select the audigy soundcard's synth but won't let me bounce the sound down to Wav seems inconsistent and is also annoying << Why is it inconsistent? The Audigy softsynth is a hardware port implemented by the Audigy driver. It is not a softsynth like a VSTi or our DLS synth. It is completely external to ACID. There is no mechanism through either VSTi or DLS to get the audio produced by this synth. It is wired to the hardware outputs of the Audigy. Even the DirectMusic implementation of this synth does not expose to a host the ability to recieve the rendered SoundFont output of the softsynth. It would be the same as rendering a track routed to a Motif or Korg external synth. The only means to do this is to record the output of the device as an audio track. Peter |

Thanks, Peter I understand, sort of. What do people think is the best option then? Rather than render the project (which will exclude the hardware synth midi tracks)bring up SoundForge and record the project and trim the front and back ends? Can anyone think of any other alternatives? Chris |

There is really no simple solution to this. You could record the output of your Audigy back into ACID or use another app. Peter |

Or you could get a VSTi sampler and pull the soundfonts that you like into it. Kontakt does this, I believe. VSampler is supposed to, too. Jeskola XS-1, which I just purchased, is supposed to do it, but I haven't yet tried it in Acid. I'm doing basically what Peter recommends: recording it or not using the Live! soundfonts at all...actually, more the latter than the former! I bought SampleTank XL. Diane |

Thanks, Diane. I wonder if Vsampler is compatible with the Genesys SF2 Library? Chris |
