Since moving over to XP and Acid 3 / Soundforge 6.0, My Gina24 on my XP Machine cant seem to haveopen more than one software at a time - for example a audio sequencer, (Acid) and in the bottom tray and Audio Editor such as Soundforge or even another program...

When i switch between the 2 (or more) Programs I get the Error Message :

"The Gina 1-2 Analog out playback device does not support one or more of theCurrent Format Parameters (sample rate, number of Channels, or bits persample)

I had the same card in my Windows 98 SE machine and the Gina20 switched over immediatley to whatever "open" Program i was using at the time, and used the same Gina 1-2 outputs which i allocated as stereo playback

(Gina 3-4, 5-6etc were all patched to different outputs on my desk , which had FX, EQ etcand didnt want to use these for preview)

I was told that under Windows XP, it is always "Multi Client" - Under Windows 98SE i had to enable this and it worked fine ...

How can i prevent this under XP?

It's my understanding that ASIO drivers can only be used with one program at a time. For example, I use Chainer (ASIO driver) and when I record Chainer's output, I have to Stop Audio (releasing the driver) before I can work on the recorded waves in Cool Edit. Chainer is programmed to release the driver; some other programs are not and hence have to be closed entirely to release the driver.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is the case: What you gain in the latency department with ASIO, you lose in the multitasking department.

So if you're trying to use ASIO drivers, this may be your problem.

I don't have a "multi-client" card either and would like to use ASIO, and tho I haven't really looked into it, it would seem like, say, going from Acid 4(asio) to SF6 or vegas(mme), that you would shut down A4, then access the .wav file you saved in the explorer section of the next app you're going to use. I've been back and forth on this also...I mean, I layer, so latency isn't that big a deal for me and I like as seamless as possible whenever I work...when all is said and done I just may stick with mme, but I am a studio of one, or an army of one, whatever...
