There is no direct way to control this type of navigation, however there are two ways in which you can accomplish this:

1. If you don't need fine control over chapter positioning, you can insert a "music compilation" into your project. You can then insert your individual movie clips into the music compilation as separate tracks. These will play as one large movie on the DVD, and have automatic chapter points between the individual clips.

2. Render all your movie clips as one large movie and bring it into DVD Architect. This way, you'll be able to set chapter markers anywhere, as well as create play items that play the whole large movie, and/or just portions of it (in case you wanted menu links to play the individual clips as well).

Thanks Tony,

I don't render the mpeg2. I capture them real time in Matrox rt2000. Since my mini-dv tapes are 1 hour long, I may have a wedding that is 2 hrs...the ceremony is on tape 1 and the reception is on tape 2. So anyway, I capture the 2 tapes and 2 separate movies.

I have been using DVD Complete which easily allows me to set chapters then give instructions on what to do when finished playing a movie...ie jump to "movie 2" or return to main menu, or whatever. That way the client can watch their wedding from start to finish without having to re-navigate.

This isn't that big of a deal, but I would really like to have a little more control in DVDA if possible (and still have chapters within the movie as opposed to your workaround).

Is it very difficult to add this type of functionality?

Thanks,
Phil

Tony,

I agree with Phil here, there should be some flow control, other than forcing
the parent menu after a video object has finished.

A loss of chapter granularity is not acceptable. And rendering one large file
is not always possible or desired.

Playing seperate videos in succession is an important feature. Not just
"Play All" but also play a predefined sequence of events, that each contain
chapter markers.

I agree 100% with this request. Not being able to control title flow by having the choice of either return to menu or play next title is a serious problem. I use this feature a lot with DVD Workshop, and even though I did buy DVDA, I will not be able to use it much without this feature available.

I understand your concerns and agree. SOFO developers are paying close attention to all your comments from this forum, and will work hard to continuously improve the product.

I think a global menu/event flowchart UI
would be great.

Not only would it allow specific flow control
of events within a parent menu,
it would serve as a good global viewpoint of a
large project.

The pulldown list of menus and events becomes
combersome with more than a few menu and event
items.

I agree. This would be my #1 priority (or request) for improvement. ReelDVD is ideal for navigation control and DVD workshop is just plain easy (with less control). I made a bad assumption that this would be given feature to be added to a package that includes AC-3 capabilities.

Are word wraps within text objects possible?

I was surprised to learn that an option to go to next play wasn't available in DVDA and vote for its inclusion. Would it even be possible to make it "seamless", meaning could you split a large project into two titles, and have them continue with no interruption or glitch as the sucessive >4gig .avi files do in Vegas?
dsanders wrote on 2/11/2003, 6:31 PM
Seamless is not possible - its not defined in the DVD spec. Only playing across chapter points is seamless.

By the way as long as we're making suggestions and SoFo is listening, I really like the workflow view that is available in Sonic Solution's ReelDVD (but its way over priced). I've made a couple of DVDs with their demo and its pretty slick. If SoFo hasn't checked it out, you really should. (wink wink)

Add my vote for better DVD NAvigation. I was a little surprised that when I access a video clip from a sub menu, then hit the back key on the controller it jumps back to the main (root) menu not the sub menu as I'd expected. I'd at least expect this.

Fix soon please!

That said, I have a finished DVD in 2 days, something I couldn't do in 4 months with Pinnacles Studio 8 (although, grudginly, their menu did navigate like I expected)

I've been playing with the CDA demo for a few hours and hit a brick wall because of the lack of this feature. I was all ready to buy until I found out I couldn't create a continuous movie that automatically goes from one MPEG2 file to the next, without returning to the main menu.

Just so the SOFO engineers know, the reason I need this feature is as follows. I capture MPEG2 files directly from satellite. What I want to do in CD Architect is simply chop out the commercials, put in chapter points where the commercials used to be, and then play the whole thing. Ideally, I'd like a menu item just for each TV program (i.e., one menu for "Friends," one for the "Simpsons," even though each of these two programs might have three separate MPEG files once the commercials have been chopped out).

I sure as heck don't want the movie returning back to the top just because the original was captured and/or edited into separate files.

Can you bring them into Vegas 4 and edit them into 1 mpeg per show with chapter points?

Might not get you exactly what you want (and I guess might result in recompression), but it's a thought.

The DVD Spec does not allow for a seamless transition between clips. Even in other DVD Authoring applications that do allow this type of navigation (i.e. entry level MyDVD), there is always a "glitch" or slight "freeze" between clips. This may be OK for what you want, but in general DVDs do not allow the seamless transition.
