CD Architect 4.5 - can it work with Windows XP?

Hello.

I just got a new motherboard and installed Windows XP on my computer. I have a copy of CD Architect 4.5 (with SoundForgeXP 4.5) that came with a Smart & Friendly CDR drive. Unfortunately CD Architect does not seem to see the CD-R drive. Is there any way to get CD Architect 4.5 to work with Windows XP? It always worked fine under Me.

Thanks in advance for answering.

Try running CDA/SF4.5 in Comaptibilty mode (right click the shortcut|Properties| Compatibility).

I ran it under XP with no problems even without compatibility mode.

If you download the upgrade off the Sonic website it should recognise the drive,I had the same problem and that solved it, but now it will not burn to any disc I put in even media that I have used before with CDA but like you I have changed to XP????

I took the CD Architect (upgraded by download to 4.5) that came with my Smart & Friendly CDRW and was able to install it on a replacement PC with a Pacific Digital CDRW. The new machine runs XP.

CDA would not autodetect the drive, however. Open CDA, Options, Select Drive, Advanced, and start playing around with the drop down arrows until you get a combination that works.

It does everything I want/need EXCEPT I can't control the burn speed. Sometimes this is a real problem.

Select the drive as an ATAPI(or SCSI)-compatible MMC drive, and Bob should be your uncle. Any subsequent lack of speed selection after that points to an incomplete MMC implementation in the drive.
