I record Live Mixed dance music. I use my laptop at the club to record. My recordings are usually more than 5 hours long. Typically the DJ's will start with the volume at a level that is loud. I perform a sound check and have my levels set. Unfortunately as the night goes, and with dj's being hard of hearing and over zealous, they will Always increase the volume and bass significantly byt the end of the night. My recordings now have a volume increases through out the 5 hour set, some are gradual and other are MAJOR. Clipping will occur on many occasions. Is there a way to limit/boost the signal coming into the laptop during LIVE recording to avoid clipping and ensure common volume all the way through my file? |

DJ music is typically of low dynamic range, so setting a very conservative input level should be OK. The only other way is to use a hardware compressor/limiter in the recordig chain before your soundcard input. geoff |

After recording at a conservative level, would using Wave hammer to master it be the next step? Thanks for your help Geoff. |

Yes, with a bit of fiddling you should be able to maximise and even out the levels. geoff |

Put a outboard compressor/limiter in-line between the DJs output and your sound card input. I would personally use a DBX 166 or 1066, or something along those lines, which has the peak stop (brick wall) limit function . |
