Subject:4.0 can't find my VSTi's

THERE! I fixed the minor mistake in gearhead terminology! I bow to your superior knowledge! Now, can anybody offer anything useful? 4.0 will not open ANY VSTi's! This entire area of the program seems overly complicated and wrought with bugs. I have set the correct path........what else can I do?

By default, ACID does not enable any VSTis for use. You have to go to the preferences and select which ones to make available.

Have you gone to the Preferences and selected the VSTis that ACID should use?

That's just it, Peter, when I go to preferences, it shows the default folder as C:Program Files/VST plugins, which is where they are, but it's not finding anything available.

Uritrash,

Try clicking the "Refresh" button on that page. Does that make them appear? If not, please list the plugins here. That way we can know for sure if they're compatible with the program and reassess how to handle the problem.

Try this:

Exit ACID
Start | Run regedit
Locate the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sonic Foundry\ACID\4.0\Metrics\VSTi Synth

and delete it.

Restart ACID. This should force ACID to look for VSTis again on start up.

Tried deleting the file.........no good. Among others, I have Green Oak's Crystal Synth......is this compatible? How about Antares Kantos? Reaktor? This doesn't make sense.

Green Oak crystal, yes compatible. It should show up.

Maybe try (temporarily)creating a new folder for VST(i)'s....move the Crystall.dll there, and tell Acid to browse for this folder using one of the 2 "Alternate VSTi search folder" drop downs.

?

Been there, done that. All good suggestions, mind you, but I am getting annoyed. Is it just me or does this whole section of 4.0 seem kinda nailed to the side of an otherwise smooth program?

So you cleared the registry and nothing worked?
So nothing is listed in the VSTi prefrence list?

Q: After you run and then exit ACID, look at this registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sonic Foundry\ACID\4.0\Metrics\VSTi Synth\Plugs

There should be a list of entries labled

B2000, B2001, etc,etc

Also, what is the value of the 1002 entry in this key?

All that's listed here is:
(Default) (Value not set)
1002 0x00000000 (0)

After further time wasting, opening Acid a dozen more times, the reg editor now says: (Default) (Value not set)
1002 0x00000003 (3)
B2000 44 00 3a 00 5c 00 56 00 53 00 54 00 73 00...
B2001 same as above
B2002 same....
At one point, one VSTi opened for a millisecond before an error occured and shut down the program. I'm losing faith...........Peter? You got me this far..........

Ok, then we are getting closer to the problem.

It appears that your system is not permiting the default path to be searched.

Did you make any system changes to Windows that I don't know about? Anything like the WinXP optimization that have been floating around?

Something that would force all files and directories to use 8.3 naming conventions?

Thanks
Peter

Ok, well this indicates that ACID is finding your VSTi's and enumerating them.

After you have run ACID and exited, could you export this portion of your registry (File | Export) and email it to me at

peterh@sonicfoundry.com

Thanks
Peter
