I'm trying to fix the timing on a bad drum track. Has anyone used the method that's in the knowledge base? It tells you to convert the file to a one-shot and then adjust the tempo at every measure (http://www.sonicfoundry.com/support/SupportProduct.asp?FamilyID=2&Family=ACID&TopicID=4&DetailID=1409). BUT, one-shots don't change tempo (they're one-shots). I've tried using beatmapped and looped versions but it doesn't work. Somebody has to have done this! Please help. -Jim- |

That technique in particular will cause the whole project to adjust itself to the One-shot, not the other way around. There are a couple ways I can think of. One is to use the Chopper to reconstruct the rhythm to the way that you want it. (Note that ACID Pro has the Chopper only.) You can also paint or draw in a portion of the track and slip it by holding down ALT on your keyboard while dragging the event to the left or right. Still another is to use something like Sound Forge. If the timing is only slightly off (but the tempo is right), you could cut and paste the data so that it matches up. HTH, Iacobus |

It may sound a little convaluted, but if you are desperate enough... you could cut up the drum track in sound forge, save the measures as one shots, and then place them one at a time as seperate tracks in acid. Sounds like an enormous amount of work to me. |

Thanks for the suggestions. It took me awhile but I came to those same conclusions. Does anyone know of software that can do this (minor) stretching and compressing easily? Also, is there a way to adjust tempos without quickfades being put in on beatmapped and looped tracks? (unclicking the quickfade option doesn't do it). -Jim- Oh, I have Acid Pro 4.0b and Soundforge 6 if anyone has any other nifty tricks. |

Talk about convoluted... In Sonar2.2 (but it has been in Cakewalk products for a long time) there is a way to extract timing from audio files. You select the file and go to audio/extract timing. If you run that on Sonar it should give you a midi file of the drum track. You could then quantize it. Take samples of the drum tracks and map it to something like DR008 and replay the track. I'm guessing other sequencers etc may have a similar feature. It seems like a toss up, but tracking down Sonar or a similar program may be an easier way to go. Rake Care |
