I'm sure there are a lot of awesome audio cards out there, but say you have 2 choices (for me it's a money thing:))...you have a choice between:

Echo Mia or Audiophile 2496

Which do you choose for music recording purposes?

I really like my Mia, very solid, sounds good. Great drivers.

I have the Mia. However, even though it beats the Audiophile 2496 in sound quality comparisons, the second is the one I'd buy now. Reason...MIDI. No MIDI-IN on the Mia.

take a look at terratec.

i have the EWX 24/96 which is one the best 2 in/2 out cards, or so the reviews say. it's 40 bucks cheaper than the mia with similar specs.

if you need multiple ins/out the best deal is probably the ego-sys Waveterminal 192M.

4 ins/8 outs (all analog), two headphones amps and mic pres. esi is pretty good on updating drivers also.

Do either the Echo Mia or Audiophile 2496 have mic inputs, either for vocals or picking up my acoustic guitar?

Both great cards!
I prefer M-audio for the midi support, as well as the software bundle that can help (a little). And, concerning YOUR criteria, M-Audio is cheaper that Echo.
M-Audio Audiophile 2496 for 195 euro @ thomann:

Neither has XLR inputs, let alone mic preamps. The Mia has 1/4" TRS I/O and S/PDIF I/O. The Audiophile has S/PDIF I/O, RCA phono I/O and MIDI I/O.
