Nothing, really.

A construction kit *is* a loop library, although it contains all of the elements that you would need to make a song. Take Metarock Visions, for example. Although it concentrates on guitars, but it also has drums, bass, synths, etc. If you're looking for variety, they are the way to go.

There are other libraries that focus on a specific instrument only. Total Spanish Guitar, for example, has no percussion elements, nothing. Just the guitars...

Hope that helps!

David.

I think a construction kit would contain most or all of the elements to make a complete song (drums, bass, rhythm, melody, etc.). A loop library is just a collection of loops. It may or may not contain construction kits.

BTW, construction kits and 8 packs a great ways to learn how to put a song together.

Is there any acid collection that only has drums, but instead of an entire beat, its broken out by drum parts. example; various loops in bass drum (alone), same with hi-hat patterns, etc

You can break up most loops into single drum sounds and use them however you please. You can do this quickly by "slicing" a loop in Acid. Simply pick the sound you want to isolate, place the cursor and the beginning of the sound and hit "s" on your keyboard. This cuts the loop at that point. Place the cursor at the end of the sound you want to isolate and hit "s" again. Now you can use that sound however you want. Most people use the "render as wave" save option to save the sound into their own library at that point for use whenever they want. You can also program a pattern with the sound and "render as wave" to create a loop of just that sound pattern.

There is a loops CD called RADS or something like that. It has BD loops, HH loops, Snare loops, etc. Also look at pocketfuel.com

Merlyn I guess here you mean "grabbing" one hits, right?

Thats exactly what I mean. Once you get he hang of it, its quite easy and quick. I would say breaking up loops into one hits is how the majority of sound libraries are made.
