Probably a rediculous question.

It is obviously simple to insert a new MIDI Track but when you're ready to record a guitar riff and play live over your looped drum track - what type of track are you suppose to insert? Is there an INSERT AUDIO TRACK I'm overlooking or is this the same thing as a MIDI track?

I won't say "track" again.

Much appreciated.

You do not insert a digital audio file before recording.

When you go to record digital audio (which is different from MIDI), ACID will ask you what you want to name the new file in the "File name" field as well as a record folder location in the "Record folder" field of the Record window. (The same actually holds true of MIDI, but you have the option of just inserting a blank MIDI track as well.)

Another hint: Once you start recording in a specific folder, ACID will remember that specific folder when you go to save and subsequently open your project. (ACID remembers recording folder settings on a project by project basis. Excellent for keeping projects tidy.)

If you want to monitor what you're recording while monitoring the rest of your project, that's a matter of your soundcard's software mixer. Usually by default, inputs are muted.

Iacobus -

Now I'm really confused.... When you say "record to folder" what exactly do you mean?... Is ACID not setup for track by track recording?

What I did is this --
I setup a 30 second drum track using RADS (drum samples), now all I am basically wanting to do is insert a live guitar track over the drums, as if I were actually putting this together on an 8-track recorder... Is it not that simple in ACID?

I totally appreciate your help. If you have time, I also replied to your other message regarding my sound card issue.

Thanks.

Take a look at the Record window when you click the Record button (or use CTRL+R). Note the field names, "File name," and, "Record folder."

You use these options to name your take and place it into the folder of your choice. After you're done recording your take and you click the Stop button, ACID will place the new take as a new track in your project for you automatically as well. Try it.
