SF has said DVD Architect will only be available with V4. No standalone or add-on to VV3.

There usually is an upgrade path for registered users. There is no reason to believe there will not be one this time. Be patient and wait for the actual release.

This was just posted on Creative Cow's forum by JEDITDV. Disclaimer: I can neither confirm nor deny these prices.

"A new Sonic Foundry flyer in the SNAIL MAIL today! Upgrade from Vegas 1, 2, or 3 to Vegas 4: $199.95
Video Factory to Vegas 4: $399.95

Vegas 1, 2, or 3 to Vegas 4 + DVD: $399.95
Video Factory to Vegas 4 + DVD: $599.95

Vegas 4 to Vegas 4 + DVD: $299.95 "

decrink, I thought HKS was talking about adding DVD features into VV3.

I kind of hope this isn't true. That would be the highest upgrade price to date. It is also disappointing that many of us paid for features that are not going to be included.

I'm not all that impressed with DVD Architect either. I think the $50 Pinnacle product is better (more formats, more templates, better interface). At $199.95 for the whole package (to upgrade) it would have been a no brainer. For $399.95 I definitely won't be going the DVD Architect route. Especially given that need to do VCD's which Vegas is lousy at.

I'll probably wait for DVDA to mature a bit. So far, I've been able to get along fine without AC3, but, who knows what the future holds.

The V4 upgrade price is about what I expected. Higher than past upgrades, but still decent. I guess the challenge will be to hold off and see what kind of e-mail specials SF may pass along to hesitant upgraders in the near future.

I also hope this isn't true. I'm a VF2.0 user, hoping to upgrade to V4. I can't swing that proposed upgrade price.

SF is hurting for "cash flow" and I suspect that pricing is about right. They are not trading very high in the stock market. The release of VV4 and DVD-A is just in time to help out. I hope they don't over price so much that their dedicated users are hesitant to upgrade.

Before I knew the pricing, I was all for getting DVD-A. At that price though, I may reconsider getting DVD-A. I was hoping for just a bit (about $100) lower. If SF is looking to get a new base of users (their existing VV users included) they might want to sweeten the deal to get us into a version 1 DVD authoring product. VV 4 has a track record, but DVD-A is a new product.

Cmon SF.... show us some love.

From what I understand, having the AC-3 piece makes any of the DVD authoring programs more expensive. Sonic's DVDit! PE, which also offers AC-3, costs $599. So I'd say the pricing for DVD-A is a good deal.

Having AC-3 is a big plus for me to gain the extra space on my DVD-Rs for more video.

It's $200 on top of VV4 upgrade for DVD architect. I consider that good value as you are getting the ac-3 encoder in on that deal.

Remember that alone was a $279.99 introductory offer. (You won't find a 5.1 encoder anywhere near that price elsewhere - try nearer $1000 for some)

The problem is for those of us that paid $279.99 for the ac-3 encoder & may have to pay again in order to get DVD-Architect.

Hello,

I have the same dilema, I bought the AC3 encoder (Acid encoder), Why I need buy another one?

Cheers

To S.F: For the current owners of the new AC3 encoder, you must offer the Vegas 4 + DVD-A upgrade, almost at the same price as standalone Vegas 4 upgrade

Cool heads prevail ppl! Are you forgetting the ridiculously good deals Sofo offer in the first 30 days of release to existing customers? Hell, I wouldn't have been able to afford Vegas3 in the first place if it was not for the initial deal when it was released(at the time I was a longtime Acid Pro user and abuser).
I am sure they will have a separate upgrade path for existing AC-3 encoder owners....please enlighten us Sofo! Even at the upgrade price stated, it is an absolute bargain when you compare it to the price of a decent DVD authoring package such as DVD Workshop....and the fact that it is integrated into my fave NLE makes me want to weep with joy =)

With such stable good products, like VV3,V4, there is no reason anyone on this list can't find a couple of jobs that would easily pay for these upgrade prices. We all have family, neighbors, friends from school or church. Do a couple of photo transfers or edit some home video. Use your tools!
