Subject:RME HDSP, ACID 4.0 RECORD SYNC problem

I just began using an RME HDSP system. Acid 4.0, user since 1.0. I regularly operate acid as a standard multitrack tape recorder and then edit my own loops from performances, and reinsert them. However, as of this install, my recordings are so out of sync that I have to nudge them considerably before I can even listen back. the timing is horrible. I have used most brands of sound card at one time or another and I know this must have something to do with my prefs in acid or the driver, but I have read the manuals for both ACID and the RME and I still do not know what is causing this latency. Anyone care to assist? p3 700 512RAM |

What driver model are you using? ASIO or WDM? I notice that my Audiophile's ASIO drivers (which are betas) always give me ~500 ms offset no matter what latency I'm set at. WDM works fine though. HTH, Iacobus |

Thank you for your replies. I am not using ASIO. I have avoided it since having all sorts of trouble with it when I was using Cubase VST in its early incarnation. I suppose I should get back on the ASIO bandwagon, seeing as it is so ubiquitous now. The latency must be something I am doing wrong with my RME card prefs. I never had this issue even when temporarily using a Creative Shitblaster while waiting for my RME to arrive. I also use Fruityloops, which has ASIO driver support. So is the consensus that I need to be brave and go back to ASIO? I forgot to mention, I have not yet been convinced to go to XP. I have been running 98se solidly for 4 years. I plan to go laptop soon, so I guess i will be getting XP with that. Its not that I am against new stuff...its just that Old lessons die hard. |

I can't help you with your problem, but I just have to tell you that you should win some kind of name award! I have had quite a laugh from "nutrapuppy"! Good job! |

Hello, With Acid 4 I have 6 ms of latency with the RME Asio driver. Go to Asio (set 6 ms on the RME control panel, if you hear any clip or drop up to the next bigger setting) Cheers |

I switched to the classic wave driver and it is working in time, but I am getting some clicks and pops and sizzling stuff during playback, even using a stereo file in sound forge. Something is not right, but I am leaning toward the RME driver being at fault. I will try the ASIO driver tip you suggested. Thanks Ramallo. |
